I will be starting in 3 weeks from now, so I only have a vague idea. All I know is that it involves taxation law, specifically relating to banks and financial service firms.
Getting a clerkship hasn't been my goal since first year. I scored a summer vac job in banking/financial tax at a big 4 and i'm really excited because the pay is excellent (around the same as big law firms) but the hours are completely normal, and it's perfectly relevant to both of my degrees.
Ok then, pointless *in my opinion*. I would consider it a complete waste to have spent 5 years of my life studying so hard (7 years if you count years 11 and 12 trying to get 100 UAI) when I could have worked straight out of high school (or even during years 11 and 12) and have already bought a...
I mean engineering as a degree is difficult due to the amount of classes and complexity of the subjects. But if you're seriously interested, go for it, that shouldn't hold you back.
engo is probably the most difficult combination you can choose. if you combine with something, it's obvious that you have a lot more career paths to choose from then straight commerce students. really it depends on what you want to do with your degree(s).
Just based on the fact that you resent a city lifestyle and cannot see yourself working regular hours (9-6), when top law firms keep you in until around 9 or 10pm on a regular basis. You could still use law and have normal work hours (9-6) by working in tax at a big 4, or a smaller law firm, but...

you need a D average (around 75). yeah they'll still look at your ATAR.
not sure which option is wiser as I don't know how likely you are to get a D average

Re: Do you think HSC eng paper 1 2009 was trying to differentiate between students wh
i think you forget that smart people not only memorise an essay but also have read the texts.
You can just calculate your average the normal way if all your subjects are worth 6 credit points (i.e. (X1 + X2 + X3)/3). Where you have different credit points it's easier to just treat marks as a proportion of 6 credit points as follows.
Say you have the following results
Subject A: 75...
Absolutely. In fact, if you defer after your first semester, and reapply to UAC at the end of your first year, UAC will disregard your first semester results and allow you to transfer to whatever course you want on the basis of your UAI alone. That's what I did but I decided to stick with...
I suppose it depends on which department we're talking about. I got into the tax department with finance. I have met people who did law by itself or law/science or even law/arts. So from my experience the rule in tax seems to be that they prefer law degrees (preferrably combined) over single...
