    Islamic society dicussion in history

Actually, some people are really stupid. I've had people ask me whether I have hair, how Muslim women take showers, do we shave our legs, how do we sleep etc  Not to mention that alot of people find women in hijab intimidating and thus try to steer clear of them

Well I used to not wear hijab and now I do, and I hardly ever get hassled on the streets, guys asking for my number etc anymore............so you people who think hijab does nothing are very wrong. Maybe some of you (if you're females obviously) should try wearing hijab for a day and experience...

Well that's why the woman get's a dowry before she marries the guy (usually a sum of money, otherwise gold or something). The main purpose of the dowry is so that, should something happen where she has to be financially independent (like widowed or divorced), that money is there for her...

serius- in regards to your point about inheritance and her brother being a b******d and she has little to support her family on etc...........in Islam, the woman is under NO RESPONSIBILITY to support her family, it is entirely left up to the man.......whatever money she has or makes, is entirely...

    Islamic society dicussion in history

With me personally, while I do wear hijab for modesty and chastity reasons, there's another main reason why I wear it too - which has benefitted me a great deal. See, the goal of every Muslim is to be in the constant state of 'taqwa', which in English means 'god consciousness'.......which...

how can inequalities be reduced in australia?

I think Australia has a culture but it just isn't as obvious, unique or tradition orientated as most other cultures
  10. S

if your from a different religion or belief system how do you....

Australians are generally very tolerant people, however, my beliefs aren't usually overlooked by random people on the street.....but they're overlooked, to a large extent, by people who actually know me. I guess because I am a visible Muslim (ie. I wear the headscarf and Islamic dress) and...

    Islam

Salams sis Just wanted to remind you that if someone is being a prick to you, then you don't be mean/rude to them, but rather, treat them with kindness in return as our blessed prophet (p) taught. I know it's hard sometimes, but we should try our best not to let our emotions overtake us :)...

^Also, the male/s has the responsibility of providing for his biological family financially (ie. aged parents etc) even after he has married and established his own family, whereas his sister/s don't

Men and women are not exactly the same biologically, socially and psychologically. Would it then be logical to give them the exact same rights and responsibilities?

You've raised many issues so I'll be brief with my answers :) Many people have misunderstood the term jihad. 'Jihad', means to struggle.....both the lesser jihad ('holy war') and the greater jihad (to be a good person) are struggles. In fact, practically anything can be a jihad. If, for...

Ahh interesting, didn't know that.....I guess it makes sense though seeing as how crowded Mecca is already, especially during hajj season.

Should i learn Arabic or Indonesian?

I'd go for Arabic because it's spoken in many countries (eg: Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Syria etc etc) whereas Indonesian is only spoken in Indonesia as far as I'm aware (?).......Arabic is a hard language, but it's easier than English!

The lost caliph? I'm not sure what exactly you're referring to but I think I sort of have an idea of what you're talking about, though that's a wierd and incorrect way of putting it. We believe that there were 12 Imams (divinely appointed leaders) after the prophet (p). The last Imam is still in...
