do u reckon i'll get penalised for having 1644 words in reflection statement?

They don't do this deliberately. Imagine being a marker sifting through major works. When you get to your fifth reflection statement, you'd hardly have the energy to do an approximate word count for it, especially if it covers all the points, the major work itself is sound, or a previous marker...

do u reckon i'll get penalised for having 1644 words in reflection statement?

No. There have been cases where candidates with 1800+ word reflection statements have received a mark of 50/50, and my own hovers somewhere around 1580. However, I strongly suggest you use the least words possible. Only stick with the full 1644 words if absolutely necessary, and cut down as...

    Word-limit and markers

Depends if you get an anal-retentive or easygoing marker. I suppose the only way to make this course truly fair is to have one or two markers mark every work...heh.

    Submission Date

Unless I'm mistaken, date of completion is technically the 23rd. Which means you stop all writing at about 12am on the 24th. Maybe your teachers are just a bunch of hardasses.

    Anyone not finished yet?

Yes, that would be most amusing. It'd essentially render the board's stipulations for "rigorous, extensive and systematic" research null and void :p

Using Trademarks in a major work?

Yeah, well unless Mr Gates ends up reading the '05 showcase (assuming he makes it in), I really don't see the need to clutter the work with TMs and Cs and whatnot. I personally think it'd hamper the flow of the work to see these kinds of formalities, but that's just me.

Using Trademarks in a major work?

haha you think that's bad - I use chatroom trancripts in mine, and the template is actually the mIRC chatbox screenshotted in Windows XP. No, it's absolutely fine - you're not writing for profit; it's an educational piece and thus you've pretty much got free reign.

    sharing creative writing ideas

I do RFTG, and for creative my teacher has advised us to pre-prepare our own "local" and simply adapt it to the question, whether it ask for a feature article, story, or whatnot. You research the local, finding enough elements for a narrative or feature article, and make it broad enough to adapt...

    The 06 Preferences Thread

Yeah, you should only really pick the courses you're prepared to accept an offer for. Otherwise, your pedantism kicks up the cut-off for those people who genuinely want to do a particular course.

    Harder 2U Question

    P1 = 2000(1.1) - 250 P2 = [2000(1.1)-250](1.1) - 250 = 2000(1.1)^2 - 250(1.1) - 250 P3 = [2000(1.1)^2 - 250(1.1) - 250](1.1) - 250 = 2000(1.1)^3 - 250(1.1)^2 - 250(1.1) - 250 .: Pn = 2000(1.1)^n - 250[1 + 1.1 ... + 1.1^(n-1)] = 2000(1.1)^n - 250[1(1.1^n - 1)/1.1-1]...

    CSSA 2005 trial

2005 CSSA Mathematics Trial Results Thread

That's probably just the way things operate at your school. At ours, the Extension 1 maths students are ranked with the 2 unit students and the Year 11 accelerated group for 2 unit. Like someone else said, you're up against those people in the HSC, so it's best to get used to it now.

English Area of Study Trial Results

haha, yeah, but that was for modules. I wrote 3 booklets for section 3 of AOS, and for the other two about 1.

2005 CSSA Mathematics Trial Results Thread

Indeed...the 2U CSSA Maths papers are quickly losing their reputation as the most difficult of the lot. The HSC will be much harder, and will require some better reasoning skills. The very last question on this paper, for example, the one with the parabola, was at best the standard of an 8...

English Area of Study Trial Results

15/15 for section 1. 13/15 for creative. 15/15 for AOS essay. 43/45 all up. 'Bout 96%.

    2005 Legal Studies Trial Results

91 The multiple choice killed me...I looked at my answers to it afterwards and wanted to shoot myself. In retrospect I didn't think about them deeply enough and really just rushed them to maximise my marks on the essays. 10/15 for the multiple choice. 9/10 for short answers. 24/25 for...

    Major Work Research

I know; the stigma of non-postmodern short stories kinda sucks. I even have a friend who dropped Extension 2 after seeing the showcase, simply because he thought his work wouldn't get the marks. It's a shame, too, because he's a capable student. I guess a couple of kids just got too creative...

    exams today!!

Just got my results...22/25 for historiography and 23/25 for the case study. Our teacher's a bit of a hard ass though, who hinted that in the marking centres things "differ greatly"...let's hope that's not for the worst :p
