    Residential Colleges...

Um i can't give exact figures for this year, but anywhere between $400-$450 a week I think. Exact fees can probably be found on the websites of each college. The fees include all meals, bills etc (not Internet).

    Necessary to attend all lectures?

I agree with what Ozko said however just to add some things: whether lecture notes are put up by the lecturer is really faculty/subject dependent. In law and history I have never had lecture notes released by the lecturer. Some had PowerPoint slides put up after the class, but depending on the...

    Experience with take home exam

Take home exams vary alot between subjects. In my experience they are generally due before the end of exams - normally in week 13 or stuvac/first day of exams. Sometimes you may get 1 day (eg. Released at 9am Monday and due 9am Tuesday) or they may go for a couple of days (more common - also...

    Residential Colleges...

for postgrads it is as fun as you want to make it. The colleges love for postgrads to get involved - and you can do all the stuff the undergrads do - the bar to postgrads getting involved is normally themselves eg. they are older and don't want to party/play sport etc anymore. However no one is...

    Textbook Editions?

Generally if you are getting your list off co-op it tends to be pretty accurate. If only because that list is based on what the lecturers tell co-op they want, and co-op order those textbooks and approximate numbers for course. I would expect co-op to be pretty annoyed if it ordered 200 X...

    lectures

Sorry to clarify, those 'eLearning sites' serve as more than repositories for lecture recordings - most courses will have one whether or not they record lectures. Lecturers use these sites to put up the unit outline, have online discussion forums, or e-submission of assignments (if they do...

    Textbook Editions?

It really depends on the course. To be honest I'm not sure about science. I know in Law that textbooks can change a lot between editions. Perhaps look at how may years there have been between the two editions? If its only 2 years, it may be fine to get the older one. If however you are going...

    ID card

My sisters ID card arrived today...and she only properly enrolled last monday! Anyone know how long the post office normally keeps registered mail before sending it back? I'm away for the next week or so and won't be able to collect it even if it did arrive.

    lectures

If lectures are uploaded they are put onto the 'learning management system' (formally called webct/eLearning). You log in by following the link on the left side bar on myuni - and then look to your individual subjects. As a heads up, depending on the lecturer, the recording may either be...

    Semester 1 Timetables

It may be that there are no other classes available to switch to (eg. if they are full). You could try again later, or go and see the timetable people during o-week. Edit: actually just to check, I think the button to press says "allocate me a timetable similar to this" - are you pressing this one?

Are there University fees that I need to pay?

Only the student amenities fee - however this can also be deferred to SA-HELP. Otherwise nothing else. You can choose to join the USU by purchasing an access card, but this is done in o-week and is not related to the University administration at all.

    Usyd vs Unsw

There are dozens of other threads on this topic...and generally they don't end up being particularly useful.

    Semester 1 Timetables

It looks like the course has changed a bit since I studied it, however the tutorial content may not follow the lectures at all. When I studied foundations of law the lectures were just guest speakers speaking about random things, and we had 2 two hour tutorials a week - lots of reading and lots...

    Semester 1 Timetables

generally the uni should only be scheduling classes in rooms with that capacity. I've never actually experienced over-crowding, although I know it can occur in some first year courses such as psych. In any case, any overcrowding usually dies down by week 3 when people stop showing up to...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Re: 2012 USYD Chatter Thread Go and scope out where your class rooms are during o-week - just got in for a day and find where your classrooms are. Easy :)

    train/bus tickets

Really depends how often you travel, what modes of transport you use etc. During semester I tend to just use a travel10 for the buses (no train trips for me).
  17. I

    ID card

Yeah I guess that's possible. I would have thought id cards would be a centrally organised thing rather than faculties, but I guess they could be organising the send out by faculty.

    ID card

neither do I :( I assume it will come soon.

Co-Op bookshop online doesnt show the majority of my subjects.

yeah there may not be textbooks for those subjects. There may be readers instead. To find readers (if they have been printed yet) - go to myuni, mystudy and follow the link 'student notes online' (bottom right).

    Semester 1 Timetables

Tutorials generally start in week 2. They generally cover the material covered in the lectures the week before. So the first tutorial in week 2 will cover material of week 1 lectures. 10 minutes is generally enough unless you are walking from engineering to wallace/footbridge (completely...
