    Labor's Future

Conflict is necessary in a democracy which is why the idea of one party having control of both houses frightens me. Both the major political parties have survived rough patches and I've no doubt Labor will, like any true working class underdog, battle it out until they regain their footing...

    Latham's Book

Latham was at least different but I doubt his book will do much except cover ground that has already been better analysed by various other text books. It should become prescribed reading for every Labor minister though. :uhhuh:

A future for nuclear power In NSW/Australia?

Well then I hope they build the damn thing in your backyard.

    The insurgency in Iraq

I think that only two options exist to stop insurgents. The first is to kill them all, and thus make them matyrs (but when you get all of them there'll be nobody to look up to them), or take away their means for justifying their actions. Each time allied forces strike back it makes them look...

A future for nuclear power In NSW/Australia?

If it is so safe I hope Carr builds it in Sydney, right across the road. Somehow I think that isn't going to happen though. It's going to be shoved somewere where the locals don't want it and they'll have to watch as their land prices plummet, and most of them will probably move just to be safe...

Are you a Lefty or Right Winger?

I'll forgive the sarcasm because you made a Star Wars reference. Still, it is a fact that the majority of the population votes the same way regardless of the issues.

    Typical Aussies Ruin Australia

And I was told it was Prisoner Of Her Majesty, Pohm. What does it matter, it looks stupid unless spelt pom anyway.

    jail movies

Shawshank redemption was an awesome movie. Silence of the Lambs is great too, but Hannibal isn't a 'prison' movie in the slightest (Still haven't seen Red Dragon). The Green Mile ain't bad and Duncan's character is so likable. There's an old Clint Eastwood movie called 'Escape from Alcatraz'...

Are you a Lefty or Right Winger?

I suppose this has been said before on this thread but is might as well be said again. If you are stringently left or right on any topic then you are a mindless sheep. Each issue should be looked at and weighed up and then a side, be it left or right, should be chosen, regardless of your...

It's a small world, as far as universities go anyway

Don't forget that in the US there exists a very real poverty trap that is not as abundant here. Almost everyone in a US university had a parent with a degree or was wealthy or attended a 'good' school. There system works because it is far more inequal than ours. I find it interesting that in the...

    Liberal control of the Senate

yeah lets fuck up this country brother..... :vcross: By the way I'm not left on all issues, and I pity anyone who stays left or right on every issue because they are so short sighted.

    Liberal control of the Senate

Excuse me, but how long is your memory. At first the Nationals had no qualms about seeling Telstra. This was back at the beginning of the proposal. They came around a fair while ago and I suppose you, like everybody else, had forgotten of the Nationals original stance. I have a funny feeling...

Phuong Ngo didn't receive a fair trial.

I suggest that everyone take a long deep breath, read the court transcript, kindly provided by Jonathan A, and look at it with an unbiased mind, before spouting off what they read in a sensationalised media.

Unis face tough changes: Nelson (Four Corners)

Nelson is a bastard! I've nothing against students from overseas coming here as long as the places they take weren't going to be taken by local students. The way Nelson is pushing things more unis are going to have offer full fee places at the expense of HECS places so they don't go bust...

    Typical Aussies Ruin Australia

So how should we be portrayed? As American, or rather yankee, clones. Or maybe it'd be more proper to cerebum's refined ears if we engaged in the jolly dialect of the Poms, (Originally spelt Pohm, but hardly anyone knows what it stands for so what's the point). Is too hard of a concept to...

    Best Trilogy

It had to be star wars. The last lord of the rings movie lags. And sequels of the matrix, mainly revolutions, was a let down. I've not seen the good the bad and the ugly though it is supposed to the best of the man with no name series. And of course Indianna Jones is great, I lamost chose...

    School Punishment

As far as I know they have to supply you with plastic gloves if you ask for them because of sanitation issues. Can't remember where I read that, might have been the leaflet the government gave us all around year nine (it was about our rights). I never tried telling this to a teacher though...

    School funding

Yes I know public schools who cater disadvantaged kids and they're facilities are no where as near up to scratch as some private schools. If the governemnt funding was taken away from private schools it would just mean they'd have to cut a few things back but they're wouldn't be the mass exodus...

Muslim cleric: women incite men's lust with 'satanic dress'

I never said they did. Read my post properly before going off in capitals. It is a generally held concept in Australia, and I think you'll find one upheld by the courts and thus, since no legislation says otherwise, the law isn't on our side, though not the constitution.
