    complex number problem

this question was in my trial exam and i have an answer for it but don't quite understand the process. draw a clear sketch to show the important features of the curve defined by: |Z-Z1| + |Z-Z2| = 12 where Z1=3+4i and Z2=9+4i the answer is an ellipse, with foci at (3,4) and (9,4). i can...

    quanta help plz...

hydrogen spectrum showed that there were distinct energy levels where the atom was stable - ie. electron orbits bohr's postulates led to the rydberg equation - the maths in this is hard to explain, but if you have it the jacaranda t/b has a step-by step explanation of it. basically you...

What are YOU going to do?

yea im gonna skip the multiple choice too i use the reading time to look for questions that im likely to forget small details so that when i can start writing i head straight to those and answer them while i remember it all

    mistakey on the csu site?

the csu site has a lot of mistakes. mainly mathematical ones with the working. i emailed them and told them about the ones i'd picked up on and they have since been fixed. but because of this i'd suggest that if you see something on this site that doesnt quite look right, chances are its the...

Can you figure this out for me?

ladymoon, did you graph the function? if you do you should find that the upper limit of the range doesnt occur at x=0 or x=1 - in fact it occurs at approximately x=0.65

Can you figure this out for me?

yeh i have no idea about that second one... i went to the point of guessing a a root of the derivative (maximum) and using newtons method which got pretty excessive and i got a different answer each time. but i definitely cant get an answer of pi/2

Can you figure this out for me?

for those inverse trig questions, the first one looks ok to me. the second one i'm getting a different range... anyone else getting that too? im in a hurry and havent figured it out exactly, but from my graph its looking to be between -pi and about 0.58 - can't be bothered figuring out exactly...

Can you figure this out for me?

well the probability question looks ok to me... for a particular suit you have 13/52 chance of picking one of the cards, then 12/51, 11/50, 10/49, 9/48 chance of picking cards of the same suit as the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th card. That can be done in 4 ways (4 suits)....

    funny situation...

the only way i'd be surprised was if the raw 4u mark was higher than 3u. with the way that scaling works, most people who do well at maths would probably end up with higher scaled marks for 4u...

    capped subjects

for our trial examination i ranked first. its a category b subject so it doesnt have normal assessments and stuff like most subjects. i think the raw mark was 95%. 4u math my raw mark was 60%. ranked something like 30/50 at baulkham hills...

    capped subjects

ok how about this one. i do 4u math and retail operations. i found out that i got the highest trial result in the state for retail operations, but according to the scaling page on bos this subject will scale down a lot. which would you guess is more likely to count towards my UAI?

    3u Q.

we had a very similar question in our trial i think. they put a trick in ours and said that the stone was launched at a height of 1m off the ground. and i think the pole was 6m high, so the trick was to see that there was only a 5m difference - you wouldnt believe how many ppl failed to see...

Bohr's postulates: should u know the ORDER?

i'd tend to agree with you all, except from memory my textbook makes references to the third postulate, etc. but in an exam i'd guess that order isn't important

Sorry i thought i'd lost the paper but i just found it again. These are what i consider to be the harder questions: 5b) Homer simpson borrows $15000 at 11.95% per annum reducible interest, calculated monthly. the loan is to be repaid in 60 monthly installments of $333.30 at the end of each...

Space - Error in Physics Text Books

I'm not sure about that. It may be the case, but it is beyond the scope of the HSC course definitely. However your mention of the pressure wave in front of the spacecraft can still be used when talking about how problems are dealt with - the reason that space-shuttles re-enter belly first is so...

    alpha decay

i understand that when alpha decay occurs, a helium nucleus is ejected from the parent atom. but i'm wondering what happens to the extra electrons... the parent atom would loose two protons, giving it a charge of -2. is this correct or is there more to the process so that the atom ends up with...
