Perhaps thats the way they do it at your school but thats not a board of studies thing. You don't have to choose which'extension' you do, we have a mixed class and we're doing a case study that is neither ancient nor modern, its in between.

You REALLY need to know your WWI stuff for Germany, specially the end of the war with things like the Armistice and the Treaty of Versailles. Our class didn't really do anything last year and now our new teacher has to teach us the end part of the topic because you HAVE to know it for Germany.
