    The Abortion Debate (continued)

It seems pointless to look at one definition of the word muder and claim it to be absolute truth. The english language changes as people use it in different ways. So while that defination may be true it can be also used the way meaning: To kill brutally or inhumanly. It would seem to me...

    Save sex?

I beg to differ, although understanding what I have said may be easy, actually believing and "accepting Jesus into your heart" is not so easy since it requires that you follow his commands (since he essentially was God). Just believing that Jesus exists is not the same as "accepting into your...

    Save sex?

Re: save sex I would ask you too how you justify that interpretation of the bible.

    Save sex?

Yes, hence me saying previously: I want to point out again, that I am not arguing to whether there actually is any authority in religious texts but that if there is how it can be said that they are all as valid when they say contradictory things. Like you and I have both pointed out, the only...

    Save sex?

Yeah I can see how that would be fitting because none of them are perfectly valid in that case (or rather do not have authority as a text). If this is the way you look at this issue, how do you decide which parts to take from each text? Is it just what you believe God should be like? If it is...

    Save sex?

At the moment I am not arguing about the authority of the bible. All I am doing is pointing out that if the bible is counted as valid (ie authoritive) then other religious texts cannot be regarded as completely valid. The opposite also rings true in that, if other religious texts are valid, then...

    Save sex?

Azzie, I'm not trying to skew what you say, I honestly just want to understand your views. Since you want to be PM'ed from here on in, that's what I will do.

But they cannot be all as valid if one says that the other is not valid. Either the one saying that the other is invalid is valid (thereby making the other invalid) or, the one saying the other is invalid is infact invalid meaning that in both cases, neither can be just as valid. (Unless you...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

Self-awareness cannot be used simply in that manner because as you have shown, babies do not gain conciousness until after birth. It is because of this that many use the pain argument instead, which is nullified for my reasoning as shown above anyway. You alredy knew that though, so this post...

    John Howard to stay on!

I would have thought that reduced spending would lead to a loosening of the monentary policy rather then a tightening. If consumer spending is down, we will have an economic downturn, which the Reserve Bank will have to counter by loosening the policy, in effect given everyone more money. As we...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

I'll try to clear it up for you then stef :) The reason we are looking at self-awareness of animals is to see if we can point out a difference between humans and animals whereby we have more right to life then them. If we cannot, then the pain argument is nullified because animals can also...

    Save sex?

I'm not looking for an argument on whether abosolute morality can or cannot exist. Rather I am looking for an explanation of how you interpret the bibles meaning in regard to sex before marriage. You can say that everyone is right in their own beliefs and interpretations but in the end this is...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

But how can it ever be proved that this is the case? If we cannot prove it then why assume that they do not posses the abilty?

    Save sex?

Yeah believe me, as a christian, this frustrates me also. As has been demonstrated by other posters, the church because of this (and a variety of other reasons) is shown in a negative light, since there seem to be so many hypocrites. Unfortunatley I am not able to change others, but I am able to...

    Save sex?

Hmm I dunno about that. I have heard sermons on the Sermon on the Mount and have seen books also. I would certainaly not say that christian teaching skirts over it. Or at least the teaching that I have heard doesn't.

    Save sex?

I think some christians, or at least the ones I know, do try to live like that, but as you have also pointed out, it is challanging for people to avoid unrighteousness even when trying their hardest. That doesn't mean they stop trying, but it sure doesn't mean that christians are perfect.

    Save sex?

Nor do I, and I am not claiming to be. If we are talking about the God of the bible, then I would have to disagree since sex was designed to be within the confines of marriage. If all sin is equal, then there is no worse, no nor better sin then sex before marriage.

    Save sex?

If it really was easy and that simple then I doubt that Jesus would have needed to be brutally beaten and nailed to a cross. The reason he was nailed to that cross was because he told people that what they were doing was wrong. I fail to see how faith has anything to do with abosulte morality...

    Save sex?

Yeah it's all about the interpretation I suppose. But at the end of the day only the right interpretation is going to count right? I think the bible's opinion on sex before marriage is far more clear then that George bush claiming that God is on his side in the war on terrorism. What kind of...
