I've heard that much of prelim chem is highly irrelevant to the hsc syllabus. What are concepts that i should know that will place in a good position for yr 12? For example moles etc. Should i just start studying the hsc course by myself now?

I understand prelim maths is essential to hsc maths as it is the basics. What about bio? Should i memorize most of the prelim notes for a better understanding of hsc bio?

Let's just take my japanese continuers class for eg. I'm ranked around the middle in a class of 15 people. But most of our marks are pretty similar (like a 3 mark difference max) So even if i were to rank last in Japanese cont internally, would i be dragged down by alot?
