I totally agree with carrot. The paper was nothing extraordinary. Following extension 2, this was a cake walk. I finished maybe 30 minutes early and made a silly mistake in the very last question where I forgot to add the one. Super simple paper.
looking at a 70-80, maybe a bit over 80. With 14a, I split it into 3x^2+4/x(x^2+4) + 4/x(x^2+4). Im not sure if that was valid but I thought I got the answer in the exam.
well the angle between two lines formula is an absolute value, so you have to justify it's removal by saying that the denominator was positive. So maybe lose a mark.
Re: General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 2
I put my solutions to 16 here http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=293623
for 15
ai) simple expansion of the difference of two roots being greater than zero
aii) (x-1)>=0 , y-x>=0 multiply and your done
aiii) the left inequality is part...
ai) (M+N)!/M!N!
aii) 13!/10!3! (as we put three dividers in amongst the 10 coins, thus creating 4 groups.)
If Carrot hadn't put his holomorphic question on the BOS trial I would have gotten that wrong.
bi) straight forward
bii) required manipulation, I was stretched for time so I didn't finish...
I got
1 D
2 A (apparently wrong but i don't know)
3 A
4 A
5 C
6 A (wrong, im an idiot)
7 A
8 B
9 C
10 B http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=integrate%20x%5E3sin(x)%20from%20-pi%20to%20pi
