I remember on the first day of year 7 science I was asking a question and I opened with, "so you know how power = weight x speed" my teacher laughed heaps, and told me no, they really don't, and I would understand what those words mean by the time I graduate

well, technically speaking, the space craft itself would have momentum, but the system including the exhaust gases would have zero momentum essentially the momentum out as gases backwards would equal momentum of space craft forwards so you can say net momentum = 0
