Software Design - Underrated IMO. Very cool subject for students interested in programming and computers
Economics and Legal - Very fun subjects! If you don't enjoy the subject then you probably wont have a fun time. Its really cool...

My explanation would be that a lowering of the compulsory age of retirement means there would be less people employed since they are retiring earlier and a decrease in levels of consumer confidence will mean firms have to layoff people...

I feel group study would benefit you the most or even flash cards. This way you're always doing something with people and enjoying yourself. The best method is different for everyone, try out some methods and see what your mind reacts to the most :)
I think burn outs occur when a person is not prepared for the amount of work that is required from them...
You have to gradually increase work load and get used to it. Either that or they legit worked too hard.
IMO its depends on how much you like english. Are you willing to do the extra work in Extension 2 along with your other subjects?
I quite enjoy both legal and economics but i feel economics is more interesting. Try reading over the syllabus and see what you may enjoy more. You've got a while...
