Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon
I don't know if this is right, but I'll give it a shot.
P(x) = p(x)=\sum_{k=0}^{2n} \frac{x^k}{k!}
Expanding, we get:
P(x) = 1 + x + \frac{x^2}{2!} + \frac{x^4}{4!} + .... + \frac{x^2^n}{2n!}
Thus for P(x) to be zero, the terms after 1 must add up to -1. Hence...
The real reason why we neglect the positive case is because the angle is obtuse, and therefore, tan is negative as it lies in the second quadrant.
Hence, it is -1 - rt(2) not -1 + rt(2).
Something to keep in mind when answering these questions. :)
Hey guys,
Just wondering. What is a good way to tackle an inequality question ie. what are some fundamental rules that you should remember/make use of when doing questions. The reason I ask is:
1. My teacher is an idiot. She doesn't really teach us anything.
2. I am only aware of using and...
I heard a LOT of people do that to get away from doing some very weird proofs from scratch. It even has a name (the reverse Snake method :P). However, do you really get marks for doing it in the HSC?
If you do, SHOULD you be awarded marks for doing that? because it isn't really exactly PROVING...
More like you stole the clown's avatar. :P
Anyways, they are both right. There is really no point (unless you do the paper at least 1-2 months later, when you have probably forgotten more than half the questions that were in it).
staying on the topic though, I would say some Conics and Harder 3U questions are very difficult. It seems that with Harder 3U, even if you have a slight idea of how to answer a question, it usually (about 70-80% of the time), leads you in the right path. This is especially true with Circle Geometry.
Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon
basically, you find the equation of the tangent at P using parametric coordinates (root(32)t,root(32)/t), then using X and Y intercepts, calculate the area (the parameters should cancel out and give a constant value).
I'll type up the full solution soon.
Just out...
hey guys,
Is buying one of these books beneficial/helpful? My teacher insists that I should, but I feel they are a waste of money for something you can easily find online (BOS HSC past papers + sample answers).
