From the outside point of view as a Mech Eng, it seems like all they did was change the name. It's still going to mainly focus on manufacturing and from I gather, you mainly learn about how things get manufacture, supply chain and the business side of engineering.

You find a topic you're interested in doing and contact the lecturer in charge of it to be your supervisor. Sometimes you can propose your own topic to a lecturer in the relevant field of research.

Why not, join up on some on society you might be keen on and then probably never show up. Play some games with randoms and maybe make new friends. Hit up the O-week party. Met my ex gf there.

Finished my thesis last year. Finishing up my internship now.
All I have to do is one subject I stuffed up. Hopefully I can get it done this time.
