    What will happen if?

OK, you've almost got it - it has NOTHING to do with your SCHOOL assessment mark, only your moderated assessment mark &, as you are ranked 1st you will get the highest exam mark (aligned) for this mark. Now, there isn't a lot of IPT raw info to go off but I know that a 64 raw last year aligned...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Re: Chem How HARD!! Only since last year : 2001 - 09 only had 15 MC questions. The BOS extended the MC, I'm told, as students complained that 3 hours wasn't sufficient time to complete the paper. Everyone I know finishes it in 1.5 - 2 hours: that leaves an awful lot of time for rechecking...

    What will happen if?

The school assessment mark is totally irrelevant to you as you are ranked 1st which means the highest HSC exam mark achieved in your class will be assigned to you as your assessment mark, you will keep your own exam mark (as will the person who achieved the assessment mark you received keep it...

    HSC physics cutoff marks

That was in 2010 - in 2009 a raw 76/100 aligned to an 87; it all depends on the year's cohort & the difficulty of the exam so it is really hard to judge (Chemistry remains a lot more stable from year to year than Physics).

    Haven't learnt anything for Chem...

Not at our school - the blue folder contained the final year report citing an exam mark (the trial HSC result) and an assessment rank but no mark. I don't know of any schools who DO give an assessment mark out at the end of Yr 12. Some don't even give out the rank!! Even if a student makes an...

    Taking Legal Action against school

To BOSBOY: Ha ha - yeah, it's humorous to envisage a scene involving a single actor portraying many roles on stage like something out of "Multiplicity". She had to rope in Yr 10 & 11 Drama students for that I've been told (and the markers, I think, judged her only for her part in the...

    Taking Legal Action against school

I agree. My sons both went (one currently doing the HSC) to the same small state co-ed comprehensive HS (nothing flash also) in Sydney's south-east that has only 650-750 students in its entire school population. Both boys did subjects with extemely small cohorts (MX2 - 2 in the eldest's cohort...

    Internal Rank and External Mark?

Thanks cem - I'm beginning to get a handle on it now (I think.... :) ) It will be a lot clearer when the results come out as I have a vague idea of the assessment marks assigned by the school to each student in his classes (in particular the differences). By then, however, my 2 sons'...

    Internal Rank and External Mark?

Okay..my next question is going to sound really thick (esp as I continually referenced RAW exam marks in my question and neither cem or D94 corrected me) - but, can I confirm that student's moderated assessment marks are initially calculated from the cohort's RAW exam marks and their ranks (and...

Confused - Rank and School :)

Moderation is applied to RAW exam marks, is that correct? I ask as my son is ranked 2nd in MX2 - about 20 marks behind the genius that is ranked 1st. However, even if they score raw exam marks about 20 marks apart, MX2 aligns so well that they would end up with a HSC mark that is only 3 or 4...

    Internal Rank and External Mark?

Hey cem, I am always tripped up by the phrase "relative gaps". What happens if you are ranked 4th and those top 4 score the highest raw exam marks - let's say 88,87,86 & 85 1st to 4th respectively. For the sake of illustration, let's say the school assessment marks of ranks 1 to 4 were...

Plz Post the HSC Eng Adv Paper 2

I already asked for this in another thread but have had no responses - as I said our guys weren't able to take the paper out of the exam room (stupid, I know, but true!) I'd really like to see the wording of the questions etc. Cheers

    Mark Estimate

In 2009 a 110/120 aligned to a 96 & last year a 108/120 aligned to a 95.4 so that might give you some sort of idea. Your rank will only affect the assessment mark & 2/51 is a good rank so you should end up with a HSC mark in the mid 90's - say 95.

Is this the end of the world?is e3 even possible?

It definitely isn't the defining moment in your life. My eldest son (2008 HSC) got around a 48-50 raw which aligned to a 75. He ended up getting a UAI of 96.4, is ripping through a B Eng (PV Solar) / B Sc (Physics) double @ UNSW, is sitting on a Distinction WAM & has scored a summer Research...

    Terry Solutions MX2

If he scored full marks for the first 4 Qs & about 16/30 for Qs 5 & 6 that would have translated (roughly) to a 90.8 or a 91 reported. I've found 3U & 4U maths (esp 4U) maintain the most stability in alignment (esp E4 marks) across the years than subjects like Chem & Phys (more so with Physics...
