Heath Ledger Dies of Overdose in New York

Man, you're an overreacting bitch, aren't you.

    oscar nods

Man, here's hoping it wins. No Country and There Will Be Blood lead the pack with eight noms each. Interesting. I don't get the Michael Clayton thing. Very few people saw it, and of those that did only a handful were overly impressed with it. Plus it was kind of earlier in the year. Why it...

Heath Ledger Dies of Overdose in New York

He probably did die from that, I said as much. But if a 90 year old dies, they shouldn't just report "of natural causes" when it's not yet been confirmed. If the original poster had said of an overdose I'd have not minded, but the Murdoch journalist should know better. Sky News is now...

Heath Ledger Dies of Overdose in New York

Jumping the gun a bit on cause of death there. I mean, it's highly likely, but there hasn't exactly been an autopsy or anything, and it's known he was suffering from insomnia and was on sleeping pills. Irresponsible journalism. Anyway, that's just tragic.

    Heath Ledger dead

Man, I'm speechless. Just a celebrity death, I fully know, but man. It's a shame, too, as I feel he was really just finding his groove as an actor. Excellent in Brokeback Mountain, and he looks great in The Dark Knight, too, which is his last ever film, I suppose. Really in disbelief over this.

    American Gangster

Yeah, I've never thought Denzel to be anything special, and thought some of his scenes in this (like when he began shouting about Josh Brolin breaking into his house) was some of the finest overacting I've seen in a cinema since Bill Nighy in Notes on a Scandal. There's a few times I've liked...

    is smoking weed bad?

If you think that smoking weed is the thing that's going to make your life interesting, then I pity you for having such a simplistic (and poorly prioritised) view of life. I haven't smoked weed and probably never will, as I have schizophrenia on my mother's side of the family (one case of...

    American Gangster

...Even after he set the guy alight in the first scene of the film? Anyway, this was good. I've heard some complain about Russell Crowe's part in it, but I was glad for it, as I think he stopped it from being a traditional rise-and-fall gangster film. Plus I prefer him as an actor to Denzel...

    Next Governor-General - Beazley?

I don't know why people here are at all troubled over this (though I suppose these same people called the proposition to ban plastic bags as fascism, so I'm not that surprised, really). William Deane and John Kerr were Labor Party members, Bill Hayden was a former Labor leader, Richard Casey...

    The Darjeeling Limited

I thought given most of the other big Boxing Day movies had their own threads this one should get one too. Saw it tonight. Quite liked it, and a return to form for Wes Anderson after the disappointing Life Aquatic (seems to be a theme for 2007, with the same to be said for Fincher's Zodiac...

    No Country For Old Men

Point taken. I finally saw Babel recently, and certainly found its humourless self-importance greatly bogged down what I would've liked about the film (as can be said for all Inarritu films, best I can tell). However, I agree with something Roger Ebert (last time I quote him, I promise) said in...

    Atonement

Saw this today. As seems to be the concensus, I thought the first half was excellent and the second half a tad more scattered. The scene of the three mains reunited at the end was terrible, so I was glad for the final scene to negate it (though it caused confusion to the group of guys behind...

    No Country For Old Men

For all the "If you claim to love this movie you must be just saying it to be hip" dudes - get over your fucking selves. That you then follow up any arguments to the contrary with "How can you say I don't know good cinema" shows just how precious you turds are. Dislike this film all you like...

trailers for upcoming movies that look awesome.

I just caught Jesse James. Truly fantastic film, close to my favourite of the year. Strangely large number of walkouts in my cinema though (Macquarie, but a 10:30 Tuesday session). Also saw Rescue Dawn - not sure why the dislike here, I thought it a really solidly done film - may not be...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

It was 1969-1970, after the Liberals won a state election in Tasmania, and was broken with a state election in South Australia, I do believe. The world didn't cave in, at any rate.
