How Much Study in the Holidays?

Couldnt agree more with this. I always had goal based study plans as opposed to hour based ones, because effectiveness is far more important than volume in terms of study. I generally set weekly study goals and then calculated the average amount of work Id need to do per day. From there, I...

    Cadetship 2015

I was under the impression AMP didnt do much with students beyond graduate level. In any event, Ive heard good things about AMP and I was definitely impressed by how good they were throughout their graduate recruitment process.

Sydney property investment guru Stephanie Brennan has $2.3 million portfolio aged 24

Re: Sydney property investment guru Stephanie Brennan has $2.3 million portfolio aged I think a lot of people underestimate the cost of buying, selling and owning property. Stamp duty, agent's fees, lawyers fees and other fees (believe me there are a lot), not to mention interest, council...

A mate of mine is at Macquarie and he also seems to never leave. Ive heard from multiple people that Mq is like that - they reckon average turnover is about two years on average.

Sydney property investment guru Stephanie Brennan has $2.3 million portfolio aged 24

Re: Sydney property investment guru Stephanie Brennan has $2.3 million portfolio aged Wouldn't she be in significant debt though. Either way, buying property in Sydney isn't hard if you have someone to back you. As she sort of said, her parents are wealthy and went guarantor and that makes a...

    HSC Economics vs Uni Economics

Typically, if you've studied Economics in HS it can be a bit of an advantage for introductory economics courses, as they share a few foundational concepts. That being said, the overlap in content between the two isn't that large. Besides, second year economics is entirely different to HSC...

    To future accountants.

Im not an accountant, but I was always under the impression that the vast majority of their work involved advisory/strategic stuff. I think the stuff that article discusses relates more to bookkeeping (journal entries etc) which are usually done by lower level staff, not full fledged CAs/CPAs.

    Cadetship 2015

It's a difficult one because info nights are really a part of the recruitment process at least in my view. I always see it as being a bit of a faux pas to add people from a company if you are going through their recruitment pipeline. The only exception to this would be external recruiters...

Thoughts on wearing a white suit to formal?

This I reckon, a simple navy or charcoal is best. Very few people can wear a suit properly in terms of fit and colours. Add in a few accessories (pocket square, tie clip) and you will look a million bucks. If you want some specific advice on how a suit is supposed to be done, try The Art of...

    Cadetship 2015

I would definitely encourage it. My Aunty was on my case for ages to make a proper one and I didnt until I was onto my second industry role. Looking back, I wish I did because I could have really developed my profile much earlier. LinkedIn is a great and simple way to network and grow your...

How to fight procrastination and boost productivity?

Here is a copy of a post I made a while back: I know I post this up a lot, but I really think that procrastination has more to do with how you manage your work as opposed to stuff like goals and aspirations etc. The latter is usually what gets you to sit down at the table to study, the former...

Uni students, interns and graduates - share your story here!

It would have helped enormously. What would have been even better is a connection who could have actually got me a job, because honestly that trumps almost any other attribute. I think people have to realise that in most sectors, getting a job without networking/connections is very difficult...

Uni students, interns and graduates - share your story here!

Ive got a bit of a unique experience when it comes to my career thus far. But to be honest, the same can be said for many graduates. Keep in mind that graduate programs only account for 20% of overall graduate employment, so many individuals often go through alternate routes to their desired...
