    Do externals depend on internals?

It does make sense most of the time that people with superior internal ranks will also perform strongly in external exams, due to their own motivation, a perceived easier externals exam compared to internals and that they want to boost the cumulative total of external marks to help the entire...

    Remembering quotes from reading comprehension

I'm not too sure, but it's at the discrepancy of the invigilators how they want to react to it. It may be wise to maybe ask them beforehand if it's fine, so they are aware if you want to, but most likely, it shouldn't result in trouble, as you are technically abiding by the rules of 'reading' time.

    Biology Predictions/Thoughts

As biology is in 2 days, it really depends on you whether you want to do past papers, as there are definitely positives and some negatives. Past papers for the sake of it won't be effective, but timed past papers (closed book), marked after and gone through will be much more useful for your...

    Feeling Guilty for Being Selfish

To be honest, telling other students about a specific tutoring centre you go to won't give them an advantage over you directly. Remember that 2 students can go to the same tutoring centre but can have completely different results; success really comes down to work ethic and consistency; tutoring...

    Remembering quotes from reading comprehension

Remember that reading time is strictly for reading time, so highlighting or having anything else in your hands apart from the exam booklet isn't prohibited. There are a few ways you could use: Remember the initial word or a key word in the quote which can trigger your memory What some people...

Suggestions for related texts -> 1984

I can recommend a few texts: "The Lobster" by Yorgan Lanthimos - more information about it here --> https://artofsmart.com.au/english/hsc-english-related-texts/ Blade Runner film Guernica (a painting, so may be quite difficult to analyse) "We Steal Secrets" - documentary

    2021 Love thread

Sadly not, I don't really have anything that interesting to contribute, I'm afraid.

    Math Ext 1 Predictions/Thoughts

I think while everyone may have had more time to study, there's a few other considerations to make. The quality of teaching would have definitely gone down a lot, which can directly affect the knowledge students can gain (unless they are proficient in independent learning). It also depends on...

    What does this even mean

It isn't the most significant piece of information if your school provided you with your internal ranks, but if your school didn't (or even if they did, there is sometimes a chance they may mess it up), it can give you a good estimation of whether you are on track for a Band 6 or not (based on...

    2021 Love thread

IDK why I'm on this thread as well, with uni exams around the corner. In fact, I don't even have anything to contribute to the discussion, but I can't be asked to do anything else, so I might entertain myself by reading it.

    Math Ext 1 Predictions/Thoughts

Just curious ... were there any projectile motion questions? And what was the hardest topic they assessed?

    atar explanation please

I would recommend using the raw marks database online if you haven't already. I'd also recommend having a read of the 2020 NESA scaling document --> https://www.uac.edu.au/assets/documents/scaling-reports/scaling-report-2020-nsw-hsc.pdf

    atar explanation please

So your school will submit internal marks and ranks to NESA, and these are called assessment marks. These are then adjusted through a process called moderation; thus, why internal ranks are very important, not so much the actual mark. External raw marks constitute your exam mark, and go through...

    Biology Predictions/Thoughts

As mentioned above, you want to be doing forms of active study or recall, rather than passive study, which involves just plainly reading notes for the sake of it. Make it meaningful what you are trying to do; if not full practice exams, work on questions from modules you may not be as strong at...

Will a terrible rank for one subject drag my entire atar down?

I think with using a calculator of this form, you have to be quite careful. With the HSCNinja calculator, I prefer that because you can put in marks you may think you will get and then the predicted ATAR. So for example, OP may get a Band 5 in English (for example), but may perform considerably...

    COVID ATAR Points

Being from the 2020 cohort myself, I'm not aware of a scheme like that being implemented for us. However, I sourced on NESA's website what they do have in place -->...

    Math Ext 1 Predictions/Thoughts

I'm not sure if forces is assessible in 3U or not ... definitely, it was tested in 4U last year.

    Math Ext 1 Predictions/Thoughts

I think that projectile motion in Extension 1 is far nicer than in Extension 2. Usually, they tests things like range of motion, time of flight, angle of projection needed to travel 'x' distance, maximum height, all of which can be found by the motion equations.

    Math Ext 1 Predictions/Thoughts

Make sure you restrict the domain so it is a one-to-one function (which can be tested using the horizontal line test) When graphing, make sure the inverse is a reflection over the line y = x (so x values swap with y values) Also for graphing, domain and range switches

    Math Ext 1 Predictions/Thoughts

I can assure you that it won't be assessed in the Extension 1 exam. They have now moved it to Motion in the Extension 2 syllabus (which also has resisted and unresisted motion and projectile motion). (Page 41 in the below document)
