re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Altitude is not the only factor affecting acceleration due to gravity, its value is also affected by: Earth's Rotations-Creates a centrifugal effect at the equator slightly lowering the value of g Thickness of Earth's Crust-Varies and contains dense mineral...

HSC 2012-14 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Your right, but for some reason I still can't find the mistake in mine :/ Its wayyy longer than your method so probably did make a mistake somewhere along the line.

HSC 2012-14 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Yeah, I didn't recognise the cases. But my final reduction formula was I(n)=2I(n-2) ???

HSC 2012-14 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon I derived the reduction formula using trig identities etc. But got a final answer of 2^(n/2) I(0)--> So what would my final answer be? I(0) is just a constant isn't it? Probably did something wrong.

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Sure-->The relative motion between the coil and the magnetic field induce an emf (Faraday's Law) which gives rise to a current that sets up a magnetic field to oppose the original change in flux (Lenz's Law)--> For this reason we can eliminate C straight...

How does being ranked 2nd affect me?

Won't both of you get rounded to the same mark and get sent as equal first? If not -->such a small difference is unlikely to make a difference in your HSC mark (they'll probably give you the same assessment mark as first anyway).

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon Using double angle formula: sin(x)=2cos(x/2)sin(x/2) =2cos(x/2)[2sin(x/4)cos(x/4)] =.......... This process is repeated till the nth term so sin(x)=2^n [cos(x/2)cos(x/4)....cos(x/2^n)]sin(x/2^n) Divide both sides by x...

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive You apply F(x)/F(y) =[GmM/r(x)^2]/ [GmM/r(y)^2]--> The G,m,M will cancel leaving you with r(y)^2/r(x)^2--> Measure these radii directly from the diagram since it is to scale and you should get your answer :)

Re: HSC 2013 3U Marathon Thread Probably, can't remember...but looking at my method I think its alot simpler than a typical 4U Q8. from the 1980s, I found it more 3U style.

Re: HSC 2013 3U Marathon Thread This is a pretty neat question (I think it appeared in some ancient HSC paper)--> Nothing tricky, just slightly more conceptual =) A woman travelling along a straight flat road passes three points at intervals of 200m. From these points she observes the angle...

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon If not using the calculator at all, the only logic I can think of is--> we know 2^10 (1024) is slightly greater than 10^3 So (2^10)^100 should be slightly greater than (10^3)^100=10^300--> So it should have slightly more than 300 digits, I would estimate 310(is that...
