    Medicine degrees and 3U maths?

Yep, that's an advantage if an MD if you plan on doing research. It's worth noting that any medical student can do research if they'd like to though, it's just easier to arrange in an MD program since it's compulsory. Being an in an MD program isn't a prerequisite to doing research, it just...

    Undergraduate Medicine

Also gonna disagree with this, might help slightly but can defs be done (and smashed) with no science background Generally if you're able to achieve the marks to get in (regardless of subject) you're capable of processing the science content in med

    Medicine degrees and 3U maths?

You're right about the degree apart from people wanting to get into MD programs more I'd say MBBS vs MD is a more minor issue for most people since they're usually practically equivalent

    Studying medicine

No worries, figured you mighta been stressed or something. Sorry for snapping back. You seniors are my inspiration. <3 One point I might make on the MD, is that the concept of a basic medical degree being called an MD is still relatively new, with the MD classically being a higher research...

    Studying medicine

This is a forum to express opinions mate, a question was asked and I clearly said that my response was only my opinion. If you have something about what I said that you disagree with in particular, you can voice it, but just being rude for no reason doesn't really get anyone anywhere. (Not even...

    Studying medicine

My bad then. Majority of third year UNSW stuff is clinical anyway, so not too big a difference one way or another I like that UWS does more community placements though.

    Studying medicine

Pretty sure it's the same - 2 preclinical years, 1 mixed year, 2 clinical years UNSW just has the extra research year

Man, I could write essays about this And maybe I will some day I think it's fair to say a lot of people see UNSW as favourable because of prestige, and also stigmatise UWS. Which is silly tbh For med the uni itself makes very little difference, so it should REALLY come down to course...

    medicine application and rural work!

In all seriousness though, no. In medicine there is a bonding scheme where students can be obligated to work rurally in certain circumstances, but not in dentistry.

    Medicine/Dentistry or nah? ADVICE PLEASE

I'd be very very cautious of that degree tbh. If you're going for postgrad medicine, it's best if your undergrad degree also doubles as a backup, and I doubt a very new course that's specifically designed to prepare you only for postgrad med I reckon a good ol' Science degree opens more doors...

    Why Podiatry?

Hey, just wanted to say given that podiatry is a pretty niche field, no guarantees that any current students will swing by this thread. (Could be wrong though). That being said, awesome that you're excited to start and are keen to hear people's stories! I'm sure you'll hear plenty of stories at...

Curtin University Medical School to be announced tomorrow

You're definitely right that postgraduate saturation isn't an issue specific to medicine - but that doesn't mean it should just be allowed to happen. Ypu pose a great question though, so I'll give my opinion. The government has imposed caps on numbers for a few reasons. As you said, it's...

Curtin University Medical School to be announced tomorrow

As was expected, the new medical school announced today - guess it's official now, Aus will have a 19th (depending on how you want to count) medical program in a couple of years. I wonder if/how the university and government will respond to the criticisms that have been going for a while but...

Curtin University Medical School to be announced tomorrow

The health science first year is what I'm talking about. Sounds like they're gonna make them work together with students from other degrees, which isn't something the other 5-year courses do if I recall.

Curtin University Medical School to be announced tomorrow

Yep, definitely some action will have to be taken on that front. I wish they'd announce programs to solve the problem BEFORE they announce plans that could exacerbate it. With any luck they're already planning for the future, but if not then it's definitely an oversight by the government. On a...
