    A few questions on timetables/subjects

You can also do CHEM1011 in semester 2 and CHEM1021 in the summer semester. So it depends on which one you would rather do by itself

Doing scif courses in semester 1??

If your timetable works better, doing SCIF in semester 2, then do that and save yourself the hassle. But, like 95% of people will be taking it in semester 1 and meeting people is pretty much the only point of the class. The tutorial activities weren't that interesting but they were so easy...

Doing scif courses in semester 1??

They give you the choice between 1121 and 1131 since they're run in different semesters incase some students can't do it first semester.

Doing scif courses in semester 1??

SCIF1121 have streams where you can learn more about things that are more related to your major/degree, whereas I think 1131 just has the same lectures for everyone, which seem more based on the history and cultural significance of science. The tutorials seem the same, more or less for both...

what courses do i enroll in? [psych]

What kind of error message is it? You should be able to enrol in business courses. "Students are not permitted to take GEN-coded courses to meet their free elective requirements" and "Free Electives are courses that can be selected from a large range of offerings, often any non-General...

Doing scif courses in semester 1??

Majority of people definitely do it semester 1. I would recommend to do it in semester 1 because you'll be able to meet more people in your degree and I think it's best to get it out of the way early, plus I think the content is different to SCIF1131 and 1121 was pretty easy.

what courses do i enroll in? [psych]

From a quick look at the handbook I think PSYC1021 is only offered in semester 1, so make sure you enrol it to be safe. The electives in those two streams are prefixed with a 3 which means that they're offered as third year subjects, so you won't be able to enrol in them now. From what I...

    finished enrolling - now what?

You don't have to, but the lines during O-Week can get pretty long. I happened to be at uni for an info session on my degree and there was literally no line.

what courses do i enroll in? [psych]

I think the free electives they give you can be taken from any faculty (as they're used for breadth requirements). The Psychology Electives, which can only be taken in third year, are used to satisfy the requirements of your degree (or sometimes major). You have to take two from stream A...

    Timetable for a friend

Yeah it's hard because sometimes they give you options for which lecture you want, plus you have to enrol in tutorials and labs and make it all fit haha.

    finished enrolling - now what?

When you viewed your timetable, was it blue? That indicates that you've successfully enrolled in those classes, if it was like green, it means it's still pending. If you're not sure go to myUNSW and log in and click on the 'My Student Profile' tab and click on Class Timetable under enrolment. If...

what courses do i enroll in? [psych]

Yep, PSYC1011 is only available semester 2. If you want to do a general education class, refer to here: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/vbook2013/brGenEdByFaculty.jsp and pick anything that isn't in the Faculty of Science. Your free electives can be taken from any faculty including your home one.

    Timetable for a friend

That's alright, I remember making like a million timetables because I wasn't sure what was offered when, it can be pretty confusing haha. Oh and tell your friend she's choosing an awesome major (I'm doing neuro as well :))

    Timetable for a friend

Is she enrolling in first year or in her honours year? If first year, tell her to enrol in SCIF1121, BABS1201, PSYC1001 and CHEM1011 (regular chemistry) or CHEM1031 (higher chemistry), depending on which she prefers. EDIT: for SCIF1121, don't worry too much about which stream, iirc...

Difficulty between CHEM1011 and CHEM 1031?

It's hard to say, I think 1031 scales better. But, regardless of which you do, you will have to put in work, I personally don't think it's that much more of a stretch to do 1031. But, you can always do 1031 and drop down to 1011.
