    Should we care about whaling?

Killing animals is perfectly acceptable. Its subjecting an animal to years of unnecessary cruelty that I have a problem with. In fact, its probably much less cruel to eat whale than to eat pork or chicken.

    Should we care about whaling?

So its okay to be extremely cruel to animals because we like to eat them, but not to "extinct them."

Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new tax

Re: Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new Hahaha. You save the whales people are a joke. Every year 63 billion animals are raised as livestock and most of them live a life of excruciating pain and torture confined in tiny cages in factory farms...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

I already conceded that in such a case having guns is not particularly helpful. Im not saying guns are some kind of amazing panacea, just that in certain situations they are very beneficial. Also, since Australia is not exactly highly armed or threatening anyone, this outcome seems pretty...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Okay, granted a modern army has many advantages. If a powerful army was determined to destroy Australia it would not matter much whether or not we had guns. Certainly having an army (preferably private) would be much more important than having guns at this stage of a conflict. However, there...

Girl Image issues, and what to say.

Just be honest. If they say my thighs are a bit flabby and they are, just agree. If they have serious body image issues and they get all upset about it its best to steer clear of them anyway, they are usually crazies.

Rise of Nationalism (anti-muslim) in Great Britain

EU = one world government. But yeah, I agree with Hannan. To the extent that governments exist their jurisdiction should be as small as possible.

smh: new light on where money goes for private schools

No its compulsory to do something like an hour a week right up until year 11 in public schools. Depends which sport mate. Also if you like a team sport which your school isn't very good at, then you're going to try and progress through your local club (outside of school) not the school team...

smh: new light on where money goes for private schools

Well if its only a minority, then it shouldn't be a problem as most kids will choose to participate anyway, and most parents would want it. All I'm saying is that the government shouldn't force people to do it, because they just waste everybody's time. That's the basis of most libertarian...

smh: new light on where money goes for private schools

and I'm saying you should have the opportunity to go to a school that has a heavy emphasis on sports if that's what you want. I'm just saying that forcing kids to do sport is a waste of time and resources, and they don't participate properly anyway.

smh: new light on where money goes for private schools

Maybe people could afford a whole lot more if half their income wasn't being stolen from them, and the price of education wasn't being inflated by subsidies and powerful teachers unions. Not to mention education could be provided a lot more cheaply and efficiently if minimum hours of class...

    Homosexuality in Australia

You're right. At some point we have to make assumptions if we are to construct any sort of moral framework at all. I have minimized the assumptions and value judgments made. They are based on observation of human behavior and preferences rather than some ancient text.

Rise of Nationalism (anti-muslim) in Great Britain

You could see some nobility in it if Britain had been attacked, and they were defending it. But these men are just over on the other side of the world murdering civilians for no reason.

Rise of Nationalism (anti-muslim) in Great Britain

tbh, I agree with the muslims here. The soldiers are butchers. That is very much their job.

    Homosexuality in Australia

Not really. Nolan just enjoys a bit of anti-islamic trolling. He has also been known to defend the right of the mussies to freedom of religion and free speech. Riet is hardly a libertarian, he's really just a typical conservative maniac. I find a lot of what he says in NCAP foolish and...

Rise of Nationalism (anti-muslim) in Great Britain

Absolutely. Obviously in this case, these extremists are nutters. But often labeling people as extremists is used as a way to silence those who are ahead of their time, and who are eventually vindicated. Remember, at various stages in history it was considered extremist to say that women...

    Homosexuality in Australia

Who is to say what is moral and what isn't? I could just as easily claim that heterosexuality is immoral, and homosexuality is the only moral choice. You can appeal to the bible. I can appeal to The Book of Jenny from the Block, and claim that it is the true holy text. You have no way of...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

I'm sure poor training was part of the reason the US lost. But it was not the only reason. As I said, having local knowledge is also a significant advantage. Citing other contributing factors does not refute this. Yes but a rocket launcher capable of firing an anti tank missile costs only a...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Citation definitely needed. I tried to find the stats on rates of gun ownership in Afghanistan but obviously its going to be hard to get any reliable data from that region. However, I would suspect that the vast majority of poor Afgans would not have access to guns at all and that it was always...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Exactly. Rights can be stripped from us so easily. History shows us that millions of disarmed people are routinely rounded up, enslaved and slaughtered by those who have a monopoly over the control of guns.-
