Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon That is what I was looking for, but at a more elementary level.

    HSC 2012 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon It's a common question. But there is a very elegant solution to it, ie. without using arguments.

    HSC 2012 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon If 0, z_1, z_2 and z_3 lie on a circle then prove that the points 1/z_1, 1/z_2 and 1/z_3 are collinear. (z_1, z_2, z_3 are non zero complex numbers)

    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #1 (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon Like 2007 or something. It was the last question (Q10) that asked to find the area underneath a log graph.

Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon A little square symbol means "End of proof". Or you could use "QED".

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

Stoke's theorem and Gauss' Divergence theorem are interesting.

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

I loved double/triple integrals. My friends hated them though hahaha Yes. He was involved with the 2003, 2004 and 2005 hsc papers for mathematics. In fact, he wrote Q8b of the 2003 ext 2 paper.

    2unit or move to general?

Well, you would've missed out on all of Year 11 General Mathematics... I haven't looked at the General course in depth, but my understanding is that 2U and General are completely different subjects. So you'd need to catch up on the work that you'd missed. I'd probably opt with staying with 2U.

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

Haha. I thought it was an alright question until I spoke to Peter Brown. He's the one who's shaped my views about that question :P But that dude seriously hates University of Sydney for some reason. He ranted on about how the 1986 paper had so many errors and it was written by USyd...

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

It was stupid too because some students who were involved in extracurricular maths clubs had seen very similar problems before and therefore were advantaged.

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

Probably wouldn't hurt to introduce statistics, like the central limit theorem and its applications. Regression analysis and ANOVA could be useful, but I admit that they are boring topics...

The stats is never really examined anyway, except for probability...

    Favourite Mathematical Concept/trick?

You must be a very boring person then... (joke) ... You honestly found stuff like the hypothesis test, anova and regression analysis interesting? I didn't. I could do it, but I found it hell boring. The stats department was too lazy to change the exams from last semester too. Of course they...

    Favourite Mathematical Concept/trick?

Complex analysis and vector calculus (several variables calculus) is pretty good I think. Although, most of my friends absolutely hated it for some reason (probably because there is no "formula" for each question and you need quite a bit before proceeding)... I think I liked complex analysis...

    Favourite Mathematical Concept/trick?

    I like stuff like \int_0^{\pi} \sin \theta \cos \theta = 0

    Graphing Help

    It's not a "program". It's a package to Latex.

    Graphing Help

Just use pstricks in latex. Free and works well I think. But a bit fiddely for beginners...

    How do HSC marks work?

That's only if factors like the standard deviation are small for that sample space.
