    Economics in HSC & Uni

generally the economics stuff you do at HSC isn't the "nuts and bolts" of economics and is usually focused on empirical evidence/studying real-world economics (i.e. what happened to the american economy during the industrial revolution/depression, etc.) you'll find because HSC incorporates...

    ANU over Monash

and yes there's a gym (with a cardio room and a heavy weights room) which opens from 6am to 9pm on most days. the gym's actually pretty nice and spacious, and the cardio room has been revamped with some new high-tech machinery. for $200/yr for students, this makes any non-student green with envy.

    ANU over Monash

rule #1 at uni... don't be a douche and you'll be fine. you'll find at uni, an overwhelmingly large proportion of people are relatively mature and don't act like dickheads you see in highschool and are generally very accepting. so if you're a douche obviously you'll have a hard time fitting in...

ANU work experience and what's it's really like in Canberra

    1. what does he have against canberra? imo it's a great balance between uni life and social life. 2. what's wrong with attending the highest-ranked university in southern hemisphere, with a very prestigious law faculty? 3. what kind of job does your dad expect you to get while at uni anyway...

    Rate the MQ economics degree.

intro microeconomics => this is the demand/supply curve. use it, don't ask questions and STFU. intermediate microeconomics => this is how the demand/supply curve is derived. (eg. intermediate goes into more detail, explains WHY but in terms of introducing new concepts, it doesn't really...

contact this person: http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~ormerod/ she's the sub-dean of science and was rather helpful when i was emailing her about my science degree. just say someone from the science office gave you her name. if you go to the ANU advisory day she's always sitting at the science...

    Commerce: Monash or Melbourne

no. getting good grades, having work experience and having an attractive personality shits all over the ENTER requirement for a course you applied for 5 years ago.

Best university for economics in Aust???

ANU's economics is very very maths based by the time you hit the beginning of third year. so if your calculus isn't so great... watch out. that said i'm doing economics at ANU and i find it quite a nice experience. if you have any specific questions, let me at em.

    Questions from interested 08ers.

i reckon you could do a 4-year degree and only know 20% of ANU. so far the longest distance i've had to ever walk in my degree was to the law faculty, and this was because i was a retarded first year who picked a tutorial which was unnecessarily far away from my previous class (me - DURRR...

Is it a good idea to transfer from UNSW to ANU?

i'll tell ya the truth mate, and i'm not sugar-coating it... if you're an undergrad at ANU you don't really get exposed to the "research" atmosphere. undergrad at ANU's pretty similar to any undergrad at a G8 uni. it's when you do honours/masters/phd/phB, THAT'S when you'll get exposed to the...

    Investment banking?

nope. you're just focusing on the quantitative side of finance. over at my uni, it's one of the two majors in a B. Fin degree. this major involves doing probability/stochastic modelling (but not PDEs).
