Medicine after 1 year of uni

I know you have a scholarship and want to do med but yeah, engineering? Quite awkward if they asked you what are you currently doing, etc (this is rare as it is a biased questions). Refer to...

Selection criteria for Undergraduate Medicine, if a degree is started

It really depends on which uni's you are or want to apply for, they all have different criteria, this table may help you: Student resources - Med Students Online All of the below do not include interviews/universities/UMAT own criteria, it is up to you to look up the specific criteria for...

    Best way to med science?

Ergh, yes. For general degrees at UWS yes that's the stigma. It doesn't apply to medicine, if we were sh*t students with poor prospects why would they even consider having a med school at UWS etc. All med students come out with the same AMC syllabus standards and equal opportunities unless...

    Snobberry at university

Usyd Law and UNSW Law and med. Spent an entire conference yelling 'New South are C*NTS!', with Monash and hundreds of other med kids since they went up to everyone and said 'where from NSW and better than you'. But, yeah I ended up getting some kids admitting that there program was sh*t and...

    Uws vs usyd

Usyd hands down as there will be many teething problems with any new program especially an entirely new one for a uni. They'll be sharing with Medical Science students on the far side of the campus. What's so good about sharing resources with medical students, AMC accredited subjects don't...

B Business and Commerce (Advanced Business Leadership)

If you get over 90 and live in GWS you pretty much instantly get an academic excellence scholarship. The program pretty much sets you up with industry experience, extra-curricular activities, etc unlike the normal degree from UWS. You'll be disadvantaged instantly for going to UWS due to...

No open days at Campbelltown campus

There was one on June 30th I think at C/town. You can contact admissions and possibly ask for a private tour (if they can get someone to) or something or go there yourself.

what are my chances, based purely on academic results?

Not great for med unfortunately, I also encourage you to look into Flinders university, but I think it may be too late to apply. Also have a look at the MSO wiki: http://www.medstudentsonline.com.au/showthread.php?t=4015

How to be a nurse with a crap ATAR??

I've had enough of this so I'm closing the thread. Obviously Sachu you have a good enough ATAR to do nursing, dental nursing, medical science or whatever you beat 83.1% of the state irrespective of how others went at your school, look at the big picture. You can get a high GPA in any degree...

    'Too' many scholarships

Some med students have been caught out and were forced to pay the money back! They will find out once they do audits at the end of the year, it's not like there going to give you multiple amounts of money without checking. Please clarify the issue with the scholarships department.

    Work Experience/ Volunteer work?

You can join the hospital auxillary, hospital red cross or volunteer hospital groups/corps/guides and get experience and patient interaction that way. I think it's better than just getting work experience and shadowing doctors and nurses.

    Best way to med science?

Just keep it as your pref if you are really keen on doing med sci. You never know, but yeah the ATAR for med sci is different for all the uws campuses. Hawkesbury has the lowest I think. But if that fails do what you think you will do well at and enjoy that you can get into. Do well around/below...

    Graduate Med

You will need greater than 5.5-6 so just under or at Distinction Average if you want to do Med at Melbourne, plus sit GAMSAT, and an interview. So it is a long and winding path. If you don't get in you can try and sit umat and get into an undergrad course using your GPA only some uni's take...

    Is it better to do

I'd go to Umelb if I was inclined to do medicine, etc afterwards. But if La trobe (Bendigo, etc) is a lot closer to home, and finances are difficult I would go there. You can always do accredited subjects at La trobe that match up to to Umelb's standards, there is a list in the link below...

    emergency!!! interview on wednesday

Hey, Dont panic, they'll store the stuff some where, I'm pretty sure they will gladly do it as you cannot take phones, bags - personal belongings into the interview room.. It's also a country road bag, it's tiny IMO. Even today at UWS interviews we had people who had bags + laptop bags...

JCU Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery prerequisites

Prerequisite means that you must have done it or an equivalent to it before the course starts/or when the application is due. It's best to contact the uni about what you can do about it and to see what courses are acceptable.

    Postgraduate medicine

I think all of your answers can be answered here on the postgrad med forum: www.pagingdr.proboards.com It's not a real transfer, you are just sitting umat again (the score can be used for two years if its good) and getting a GPA which can be used instead of an ATAR/UAI. You still have to...
