    Australian Politics

Actually, third parties hold the balance of power in Australia on the federal level. And, logically, for said parties to become powers in their own right alongside Labour and Liberal, one needs to first vote for them. Your point is thin.

Some are born gay, some achieve gayness, and some have gayness thrust upon them

Haha, don't mind Iron, he's a loveable rogue. Fun facts: - 70% of Australians state religion has no importance on their life. - Of Australians born from 1976 onwards, a strong majority are atheist or non-religious: over 60%. - 65% of marriages in Australia these days are secular...

    Drug Policy Reform

I have no major beef with you. I just think you're a cynical douche when it comes to democracy and humanity. :p Because you can have almost all liberties without a completely free market, and you lose others when you have a completely free market.

    Drug Policy Reform

I completely agree. Unfortunately individuals like you are deluded into thinking that liberty equals the free market.

    Drug Policy Reform

In Portugal, that only really happens for people whose lives are clearly impacted by drug use, not that guy on the street caught with a joint in his pocket. In Portugal and Spain it's mainly a policy of "don't coerced anybody, don't partake in crime, don't wave it in a policeman's face, and...

    China-Australia Relations

Let's ignore Freedom's tired rant about about leaving dictators, warlords and terrorists alone and get back to the thread topic - China. Peter Costello wrote a concise rejection of the notion that all Chinese investment is good investment in The Age in July: Doing business in China is not as...

Obama's speech to be banned before it's even heard?

I mildly agree (but come on - it's a speech about staying in school and doing well), but the way the Republican party is framing it is ridiculous.

    Drug Policy Reform

Sure, if you're a deluded Libertarian who can only see things in terms of false dichotomies. That much is certainly true.

    Drug Policy Reform

Did I specify 'street meth'? No. Street meth is usually not even meth. Meth is no more potent than dexamphetamine (i.e. strong, but not 'extreme'). It's neurotoxic in larger doses (due to dopamine free radicals), but not so much for small to medium doses re-dosed. It's as addictive as ecstasy...

I said Meth is fine, not harmless. As in "when not consumed intravenously or smoked, it presents similar risk to most soft drugs".

Would you join a political party?

Yeah you've made that claim before, Cat. I don't buy it in the least and I have no interest discussing it with you. You're far more likely to convince me of the benefit of some aspect of the free market than you are that the Greens are detrimental to the environment.

Would you join a political party?

It occurs to me that my political leanings are semi-unique. I am as socially liberal, and support civil rights as strongly as the Greens or the LDP. However, economically I identify with Labour, or half-way between the Greens and the LDP. Unfortunately, Labour has a poor social/civil rights...

    Drug Policy Reform

Meth is fine as long as it's not injected or smoked. In fact, that's true for almost all drugs.

In other news, North Korea just randomly decided to open the flood gates on one of its dams near the border, without telling South Korea. 6 South Koreans are missing or dead so far.
