Are there no jobs for lawyers

I think you need to think things through a little more. I don't think too many people find themselves graduating with the exact job they wanted when they were 18. That isn't necessarily a bad thing either - people discover new things: new talents, new interests and new options. Since the OP is...

Are there no jobs for lawyers

You're essentially aiming for a single employer job i.e. working for DFAT when you graduate. I don't like being THAT guy but I think your goals are unrealistic. You can still aim for that, but I would suggest looking at a broader pathway which gives you fall back options. An economics/arts...

Are there no jobs for lawyers

Those are just flavours of law that you'll cover as electives later on in your degree. AFAIK most universities still require you to combine your law degree with another degree, something like arts, commerce, science etc. Do you have any interests outside of law?

Are there no jobs for lawyers

Every law degree is basically identical. People choose different electives but when you're applying for graduate jobs the electives largely mean jack and shit. No matter what you plan on doing, you NEED to work while you're at university to be competitive for graduate jobs. Either something in...

Are there no jobs for lawyers

If you want to live comfortably become a plumber. You will not make bank as a lawyer. Doing a 5 year degree means you sacrifice 2 years of earnings + additional HECS costs + GDLP cost if you don't land a graduate job that subsidises your qualification. You will probably wind up in an unrelated...

    Reasons to re-think ANU.

They'll reprivitise Ursula. With Bruce gone there are no economies of scale for their catering business.

    Reasons to re-think ANU.

Honestly, who gives a hoot about bonus points? This thread is about helping people make an informed decision, not jerking each other off over whether ANU is 'elite' or not. Also, if you're in the top 0.01% of highschool graduates and have snagged a scholarship you're obviously going to have...

    Help, law programs

Choose the university you want to study at. Do a year of arts (or comm or w/e). Transfer in to the BA(BComm w/e)/LLB program in 2018.

    Using old edition textbooks

For most people textbooks are more of a study reference prior to exams. Don't use old editions if they're older than 3+ years or if they cover an area of law that changes yearly like tax. Don't use old legislation, just go to the source online, though you'll miss out on annotations which can...

Make a selection based on where you'd prefer to live. I'd go with Melbourne, cheaper accommodation and better night life.

Arts/Law USYD vs. Law UTS with scholarship

Oh, I deliberately implied that there would be no experience building involved. It's just status signalling :p

Arts/Law USYD vs. Law UTS with scholarship

Just for the resume. It's signalling, 2 years at a big law firm is a nice thing to have.

Why on earth would you even consider a 2 hour commute? UWS is fine.

    Law graduate job outlook

Prospects? Pretty shit, make sure you've got a marketable second degree. I'm ex-Ruse. The most successful lawyer from my year had one of the lowest UAI's in our grade (low 90's) and didn't go to a Go8 uni. Go figure.

    Electrical Engineering Vs Juris Doctor

Patent law is a fairly specialised field and may not have the same problems as the wider legal market. Do you have any friends in recruiting who could give you an idea on what the market for patent lawyers is like?

That bachelor of finance, economics and statistics tho...

Check the course requirements against an ordinary commerce degree, or a com/sci with a maths major. Wouldn't be surprised if there isn't any difference. ANU commonly tarts up standard degrees by giving them fancy titles and a high UAI cut off to attract high achieving students.
