Alignment and Ranks and what not.

Essentially, at the end of your internal assessments your school would have submitted to NESA a raw assessment mark. Now, this mark is not disclosed to you but rather expressed as a rank order. I.e. if there are three students with raw assessment marks 52, 78, 95 the student with 95 would be...

    EAS points

The total number of adjustment points you can receive this year has been increased to 12 in response to COVID, though not sure if this includes HSC PLUS which is not applicable to law anyway. Also, quoting from the UAC wesbite: And I do not believe that UNSW releases the data RE how many...

    Pls help xoxoxo

Yes this one was alignment - depending on the difficulty of the exam, NESA will adjust performance band cutoffs to be representative of the band outcomes as quoted above. For instance, this year's Maths Advanced was rather difficult so in all likelihood the band 2 cutoff will be well below 50 -...

    Feeling Guilty for Being Selfish

I'm not gonna lie... I think that this mentality is one that could be quite negative going forward. As jimmy quite eloquently put it - and this is a message I would echo. When it comes to tutoring - each student gets out what they put in. I was fortunate enough to be dating someone who...

    Math Advanced Prediction/Thoughts

Where do we reckon the band 2 cutoff for this year would be? Would have to be incredibly low I'd imagine, the band descriptor is " Demonstrates limited knowledge and skills appropriate to the course. Solves simple familiar problems with limited accuracy. Uses some mathematical language...

    Drama essays!!

Thank you my friend I'll listen to that advice. Tbh there is a serious lack of advice on how to write good drama essays... I guess it's usually less important but this year if my essays are shit then my performance marks are also shit I hate covid bruh 😭

    Drama essays!!

Gday everyone - no idea how many of you fine people do/did HSC drama but my god these essays are so wacky. It's like a weird combo of play reviews, experiential learning, quotes... almost like a module b essay for English but with a slight hint of dementia. Anybody have any...

    Anti flash cards

Yup you can get a spaced repetition heatmap addon that's really good for this. I've been using it to memorise my geo notes.

Cutoffs and how the cohort goes

People - if an exam is objectively hard, then NESA will adjust the alignment to reflect this. Nobody has a crystal ball to be able to predict how many people will get a Band 6/E4 for any given course, but you should keep in mind that the performance band distribution has been relatively...

    marking

Yup, and even for those who have been more adversely effected than others NESA has done COVID special considerations for things like drama and E2 major works and I believe that UAC has added a new EAS category for people whose parents/primary caregivers went into jobseeker or whatever the COVID...

    marking

Can’t see why they would be. As long as the same standard of marking is applied to everyone across the state it doesn’t really matter how harsh/hard it is - if everyone does shit then the alignment will save the day to ensure that the results are comparable with previous/future years.
