Does UAC only look at our external performence?

The school's internal marks are moderated (adjusted) to have the same average mark and mark range as the school's raw external marks. Then both of those two marks are sent to UAC for scaling.

When do they write HSC exam?

The exam committees start to write the 2012 exam papers in Term 4 this year. The process of refining and polishing the questions goes on until the middle of next year. Certainly, any major issues occurring in the second half of next year cannot feature in the 2012 exam papers (but you can still...

I got a scribe granted for HSC, should I use him?

That is just cheating, it's no better than taking illegal notes into the exam. The extra time is only for dictation, not for breaking the rules.

I got a scribe granted for HSC, should I use him?

50 or 60 years ago fewer then 10,000 students completed NSW high school. Now it is more than 70,000. With growth comes diversity.

I got a scribe granted for HSC, should I use him?

A scribe is most useful in answering long essays. Maybe you can write any multi choice and short answer questions. Also, it's very hard to use a scribe for Maths and Science. Did you get rest breaks if you write yourself?

    = firsts (Good god)

Re: = Fuckin firsts (Good god) A student's exam result is left out of moderation if it is ruled to be a "depressed score". That is, it must be very significantly lower than the internal assessment.

    Aligning and Scaling

The final marks, which mainly lie between 50 and 100, give less discrimination ability in the ATAR. By using raw marks with a wider mark range, UAC gets a better spread of ATAR scores.

Two people ranked first in course

No secrets there. Click on the following link http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/manuals/pdf_doc/ace_manual_withlinks.pdf and go to 8.13.3 Development of HSC internal assessment programs And you will never be able to prove that "you have the same mark as First Place" as the marks of...

    Nearly at the finish line!

As a VOF (very old fart) let me say that you WILL part company from your school buddies over the coming years. Then, after you have a successful career and a loving family, you will again appreciate how much of you essence you derived from your school friends (and even those you "thought" were...

what happens if you fail one of your preliminary exams?

True for HSC courses, but I thought the inquiry was about Preliminary, where there is no 50% rule.

Two people ranked first in course

While it is true that schools submit only whole marks to BOS, there is nothing to stop them transforming or standardising marks before they are rounded and submitted to BOS. For example if a class of three has marks 97.4, 96.8 and 94.2 then all the school has to do is add 0.6 to everyone's mark...

    writing out of lines ..

That is NOT what it says, don't be a scare mongerer. "Everything on the student writing booklets and/or question-and-answer booklets is captured as a scanned image, whether it is in the lined part, the blank part underneath, above or to the side or even if it is on a completely blank page."

    HSC and being sick.

Yep, if you can prove you were sick then your mod assessment becomes your exam mark.

    writing out of lines ..

Markers are told to mark everything the student writes. Some exams, however, are scanned and marked on computer, so you have to be careful not to write too close to the edge or the scanner may not pick it up.

    Natural causes? Suspicious .....

Two people ranked first in course

The biggest worry in this situation is where the highest exam mark is like 97 and the second exam mark is 83. If there are two students ranked equal first they both get a moderated assessment of 90 (the average). The student who earned the 97 doesn't get to keep the 97 as mod assessment, which...

what happens if you fail one of your preliminary exams?

The only thing that can stop you from progressing from Year 11 to Year 12 in a subject is if you get an N Award.

    Special provisions

Having a scribe only gets you an additional 5 minutes every half hour to compensate for the dictation process. Anything beyond 30 minutes must have been for another reason (poor reading ability etc)

    Special provisions

Even if you don't want a scribe, you can apply for rest breaks (5 minutes every half hour) in case your hand/arm starts to hurt while you are writing.
