bose-einstein statistics for bosons, he corrected/clarified Bose's slight misconception when bose explained/ derived the planck distribution rigoroursly

    physics-what happened to it

It's all about presentation, whoever's controlling what our minds are being fed at school wants to appear to be transforming everyone into all rounders. If they want to lift the literacy rate, they should be introducing a compulsory unit of language usuage (grammar, expression, comprehension...

Also, in special relativity, difference in time not only depends on the relative speeds of 2 frames, it also depends on the position in the frame it's always taught that: t' = t/(1-v^2/c^2)^(-1/2) it's actually t' = (t-vx/c^2)/(1-v^2/c^2)^(-1/2) and .. we haven't taken that into...

    Pwned!!

Hey, the professor should also consider the effects of the gravitational field of the sun, and the earth on time.

Well that was a load of crap...

ofcourse, not many will choose to study pure physics, but bear in mind that for virtually all engineering courses, people study physics, with alot of numbers and integral signs too this reminds me of James Hacker in Yes Minister. Those questions are based on course content. Yes, I know it's...

Well that was a load of crap...

the first point sounds rhetorical, so now could you please explain what does 'physics based' mean? I totally agree with your second point, let me list the things we should chop from the HSC: From mathematics: Induction, Weirdo inequalities, divisibility proofs, complex numbers, algebra...

Well that was a load of crap...

Senior science is quite suitable for this purpose, I think physics should be there to prepare us for tertiary study. mathematics is an inseparable part of physics. To prove my point, please attempt the following: explain why a mass defect leads to a release of energy. And as HSC...

Ah.. see how we've turned back even in historiography and the study of history? There has been a movement in the past century to investigate social history - history which looks at social conditions and the lives of everyday folks, instead of concentrating history on great white males, whether...

    Particle Accelerator

no where will you find an inertial frame of reference, you will always be in some gravitational field, hence accelerating. And because of this, special relativity has no business to do with the real world, atleast anywhere close to the earth

Well that was a load of crap...

Anyway, I think the real reason for changing the science syllabuses and other changes for is to create an illusion for students that they are doing well by squeezing the reported marks to a narrow range For example, there use to be 2 different types of history courses. One is mroe...

Did Anyone Get Confused By The Wording Of The Time Dilation Question

byt subtracting 13.3 by 16.7 you're using galilean transformations, and in the speed of light doesn't remain constant for this, violating assumptions for special relativity

last question in section one about particle accelerators

read the other thread.. basically the magnetic field is used to keep the particle in place, it cannot speed it up. but to keep it travelling in the same radius, the field must increase as a the speed increases, and you have to take in relativistic effects and the gamma factor. ND: :p

last question in section one about particle accelerators

yep, magnetic fields CANNOT increase the speed charge particles, no matter how you change the field (yeah I used the word acceleration loosely in my other post), above post gave the general idea, only electric fields can accelerate the charge
