    The Problem with Rote Learning

I haven't followed the thread but so far i guess everyone believes rote learning is bad and i would agree but here's my take on it. HSC is a game. As simple as the statement is, it is true. You do the HSC to gain entry you don't necessarily care about the concepts (most students anyway). Like i...

Prediction of 2013 ATAR cut-off for subjects

Pharmacy dropped cause they wanted numbers LOL the course itself isn't any easier tbh And to the others its supply and demand only few remain consistent the rest can fluctuate a few marks at a time either way

    EAS Disadvantaged school

It really depends but i believe the maximum cap of bonus points you are able to recieve from subs + eas is 5

ATAR 'devalued by use of bonus point schemes'

I believe our system works quite well on the contrary like on an honest opinion getting into the course is one thing, staying in it is another. Any system that gets implemented will not be flawless and there will always be ways around it, but it is in a sense fair since there is diversity that...

Chance of me getting into this course with "my" ATAR.

Chances are still viable like the previous year is a good indicator but cutoffs work on demand and supply and unless the faculty becomes a douche about it and putting a floor atar i would say you'd hav a decent chance at it. Still first preference it but consider other avenues Good Luck :)

    UAC Advice Please

Umm my first question is have you applied for the uac "education access scheme". If so i wouldn't worry too much about the cutoff that gives u a buffer of about 5 marks. Secondly the cutoffs don't tend to fluctuate too much i guess except for pharm comparing last year to the previous year but...

    ATAR and flexjble entry

Im not too sure if its changed but i recall usyd has the Broadway scheme which doesn't use subjects as a indicator but uses the UAC disadvantage scheme, but again it would depend on the course and the nature of entry, other members more familiar please correct this if it appears wrong

    Share your 2012 ATAR here

It depends on the uni with some it is treated like normal atar points i think UTS and Unsw (some courses only), i think for uysd it is based on the faculty quota so i can only speak of pharmacy, they take "x" amount every year under the Broadway scheme (bonus points), once that quota is filled...

    Current Atar Calculator Accuracy

I think it's been quite stressed in this thread but i'll repeat it again, all of them will produce a various number that for some may only range quite small and some quite large, i will highly stress to use them accordingly it's not definite, the main thing to realise is ever member from...

    Current Atar Calculator Accuracy

To be honest all should give u a reasonable range, use all of them just to get a feel of what you should be getting close to, i mean sometimes as many have noted can be brutally off either way so :/

    Current Atar Calculator Accuracy

I think they're being modest with their estimates this year or they have just played with the subject scaling more :/

HSC Exam Marks + School Assessment Marks?

Please keep in mind that the Board of Studies and UAC are separate entities, in which case the BoS will scale your marks in one way and UAC will do it in another and although there are atar calculator out there it will vary because each years mark distribution will also change, so sometimes your...

    Molar Heat of Combustion

I see where you're coming from and i agree when your being asked for a value the sign doesn't matter to much but at the same time if the question asks for the kind of reaction then it would but i think to simplify the solution us /\H=mC/\T just to get a value and when it asks for what kind then...

    Chemistry Questions

Re: Urgent, heat of combustion question! I guess what u can do is zero it to the container which you are taking it from and take measure how much you take out but i don't think that makes much difference

    Chemistry Questions

Re: Urgent, heat of combustion question! So changing the apparatus, so maybe use an aluminum can instead of foam cup, better sealing of the calorimeter, use an electronic thermometer instead of an alcohol/lead one. For reliability the only one i can think of is repeating it but i guess u can...

Re: ethanol as a reneweable resource? I think points missed with why it isn't used is the difference in molar heat of combustion, it takes more moles of ethanol to burn to the equivalent of 1 mole of octance, and another one i remember unless it's changed is that it takes more energy to produce...

    Chemistry Questions

Re: ethanol as a reneweable resource? I would also like to stress that you would require reasons why it isn't used completely right now :), questions you should ask yourself, why do we continue to use fossil fuels if we have such a "renewable source" avaliable

    Israel Affirmative Action in Gaza

A coin has 2 sides, more or less like this conflict, we only really get to see one side or whatever the media wants people to know, unless we've actually asked people on the strip which side they want you can't really be saying that Palestine will be better off in the statehood, it's like saying...
