If relevant, then quotes are fine, footnotes too if you have too much time on your hands and need to do something, but otherwise the most important thing is the point you're making. It's a waste of words to quote when you don't have to :) And ANY resource you use should go in your resource...

As an aside, most people I know tend to do really well in EITHER cul100 OR soc180. I do know a few people who are smart enough to do well at both, but the writing styles required for those two units are so similar, yet so different...
