Re: Refurbishment and few words.. Ah, I get yelled at by my managers FOR serving. The Service manager is not allowed to operate a register ever! I feel a bit useless at times! :S

That doesn't phase some of our staff members... we usually have to get the duty/store manager to call them for us to get them to come down!

There's a Big W opening in our shopping centre soon... has anyone jumped ship from supermarket to Big W? Better/worse? I'm interested... I imagine office cashier and service manager roles would be pretty similar?

Maybe I'm old.. but how hard is it to just lodge a paper leave form and check your roster in store? What is the real need to have it available online... maybe convenient for some but I think it's a bit cost prohibitive when the current way we do things works just fine...

Re: Casual instead Part-time? was I fooled? It's also end of financial year and most managers are trying to cut wages everywhere if sales aren't doing as well as they had planned to get a good result.

lol, hooray for QLD law. No liquor for me :D Hm, tonight I was blowing up balloons for QFF launch... crappy orange balloons which tasted toxic and my fingers were orange afterwards ugh. If I die for Woolworths... that would be sad.

Well technically the bale press isn't in the store like your oven is. Ours is one of those really old ones that are outside? Like theres a door in the wall with a chute to the press outside? I'm sure we would have evacuated if it threatened to spread into the store but we had it under control...

The bale press caught fire today. I'm just upset it didn't spread into the store so we could evacuate. Meanwhile customers are shopping 20 metres away "can you smell smoke?" "no.." lol

I hate public holidays. My 5 hour shift turned into 8.5 hours with a 10 min break :'( I wonder if I'll get overtime ONTOP of my 2.5 loading HMM? I doubt it. Oh well.

LOL - a customer asks a junior serving next to me if we take fly buys, she asks me, "no fly buys is Coles", she responds "but isn't everyday rewards having fly buys now?", me = wtf look. Ah! Anyone else signed up for QFF? :P Meanwhile the duty manager was running around because a construction...

16 large, 4 express, 2 smokeshop = 22 (but we never issue #1 (unless its Easter/Xmas) so 15 large). We're open 8-9 weekdays, 8-5.30 Sat, 11-6 Sun. It's not normally that busy in the last hour, but we don't roster staff (2 operators + s/visor) so if you're the night s/visor you're usually having...

Our store is so old and dilapidated... we were supposed to get a completely new store as part of the shopping centre refurb and expansion (they're adding a Big W to compete with Target) but now it seems they're delaying that for a couple more years and in the mean time we're just getting a...

Hang on, what is the purpose of that? Maybe I'm missing something, but surely these jobs can't be condensed... there's no way 1 person can do all those things in a day.

Oh, he meant stock customers dump? Haha, yes well we do that with fresh food departments obviously but we put away long life. What shits me is nightfill leaving trolleys of whole cartons for checkouts to put away.

That seems a bit silly.. makes sense for F/E to keep note of left behinds and then return the stock to department/show because customers will see F/E (first) when they come back looking for it!

^^ I'd say they'd start advertising about a month before it opens (recruitment process generally takes about a month). I've worked in almost all the departments... bakery/produce is the best... Deli is good, but you have to serve customers and they are picky when it comes to fresh produce...

They did that at my store too. I didn't get a letter, though, that'd be because I'm studying education, lol.

Should teachers be able to have sexual relations with consenting students?

Yes, but not if it is a student in the same school that the teacher is employed at. That is clearly a conflict of interest. The current policy (in QLD) is teachers cannot have a relationship with a student in ANY school - which seems silly to me...
