The best subjects, the most enjoyable subjects and coolest subjects: FOR YEAR 11: English Extension 1 Mathematics Extension 1 Ancient History Biology Economics Chemistry Sadly, they aint all the subjects I'm doing FOR YEAR 12: (comes from speaking to year 12's) English Extension 1...

My subjects for next year some advice

Great thinking there. With those subjects, 100 has been the maximum mark obtained in 2007, except for Standard English, where 99.85 was obtained. That means that the top standard student gained 99.85. I'd opt with Advanced than Standard, but it's your decision.. BTW, if you are averaging 60-80%...

    SC Monitors are they strict???

I just read something about HSC monitors being really lax. Someone said that they let some people write after the time limit. I'm sure the SC monitors will be really lax :) Our teaches always exaggerate on how strict they are. Like how they will deduct marks for not taking your pencilcase out...

    Republic

No, because it's unncessary. Why change it after so many years? Changing means we'll have to get the Queen's head off our coins. :)

what mark do you think you got?

Well done. Congratulate yourself, the exam is over! :) Sorry I just had to add... I don't know about you guys.. but whenever I estimate low marks, I get high marks. And when I estimate high marks, I get low marks. Optimism always gets me. :(

    Do you like maths?

However, if the teacher missed something out of the syllabus, you fail. So it is partly the teacher's fault. I'm okay with maths. I enjoy it because it is challenging and there is no GROUP WORK involved in maths. :) But I hate getting bad test marks :(

    Eugenics/Intellectual Discrimination

Advantages: Produce another Einstein - More discoveries for mankind Disadvantages: Discriminative to those who are dumb - Society places more emphasis on intelligence (sure, everyone complains about HSC)

    Adam and Eve or Evolution?

I'm an agnostic. Adam and Eve can't be proven but evolution can. i.e fossil records and the lot. I opted for Evolution.

    Selective Schools: Good or Bad?

Because of Asian Parents. Most of them don't know that it's a skills test and they expect their kids to memorise everything in past papers. LOL, we didnt even know how to study back then :) LOL, however it's usually the kids who decide to study for the SC. Most parents don't even know...

    Band 1 in maths

Yeah, 1% of the state get Band One in Maths... Maybe your teacher was stating that nobody in your school got Band One. The average for General Maths in the State (2006) was 65.6. Good luck kicking ass!

Whoever's Failing General Maths or Gettin Shit Marks This is the Place 4 U

Mel.Riot, Ancient History scales higher than General Maths and everyone complains about the Ancient History scaling. Yes, General Maths scales down but if you are doing more than 10 units, the backups can save you.

    Selective Schools: Good or Bad?

Selective schools cater for the needs of the gifted and talented students. If I wasn't accepted into selective in Year 6, I would be pulling my hair out in class at the lack of challenges provided. :) Look at this... In primary school, we learnt our times tables in Year 3 and in Year 6 we were...

Did You Make It To Selective Schools?

Yeah, and I went. Of course people from non selective can get good UAIs but only a small proportion. LOL, some people from selective don't even get 60s.

does only having general maths and standard english weaken your UAI

Yeah, you'll have to work really hard to make sure the scaling wont affect your results. According to the UAC website, a student achieved 99.85 with Standard English. Another student achieved 99.90 with General Maths. Furthermore, a student studying Ancient History acquired a UAI of 100. It...
