Year 7-11 up to 2unit Maths tutoring $20/hr STRATHFIELD + NEARBY AREA

98 is quite far from a State Rank because many people get 100, let alone 98. I am surprised that a 47/50 and a 98 in Extension 1 and Mathematics Advanced only yielded an ATAR of ~95. Do you have proof of your results?

    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #2 (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Marathon :) Solution can be found more easily by realising that we are solving two even functions simultaneously, and we can take advantage of that because they both share x=-1 as their axes of symmetry.

Did you also do Extension 1 and/or 2?

How does one 'Top the State'?

Yes. But suppose there are a handful of people fighting for say Top 10 in Extension 2 Mathematics and they all got the same marks externally, your school's performance will be taken into account. I know somebody who just missed out on a State Rank in Extension 2 because although he was very...

    Maths Question

Very silly question imo, because you do not need the values of a and b to find the value of 1/a + 1/b. \\ \frac{1}{a} + \frac{1}{b} = \frac{a+b}{ab} = \frac{6}{4} = \frac{3}{2} The values are permutationally invariant due to commutativity of Addition and Multiplication in \mathbb{R} so it...

    Irrational Integral

Quite often, Wolfram does not use the optimal way to finding the solution, and rather uses the 'Brute Force' method as opposed to elegant ones.

    Irrational Integral

I really don't think throwing a wolfram link is the best way to answer juantheron's question, as it is a nontrivial integral.

    integration question?

I am sure he does. My point was that OP would have learnt better from an explanation, rather than just the final answer. The matter is not whether Spiralflex 'knows his shit' or not, but whether he could have explained it, which again I am confident he can.

    integration question?

Correct, but maybe you should explain from where you acquired this answer, rather than just throwing it at nfreidman.

    Cool problem of the day!

There are (r-1)!! ways of drawing r chords. We will utilise the Catalan Numbers and bracket strings to calculate the probability. Define a 'good' bracket string to be closed ie: (()()) or ()()() where B_left = B_right, where these bracket strings represent chords. A 'bad' bracket string is...
