IMHO, I think the degree provides an excellent foundation if you intend to embark on drug design and discovery. You would need to be quite competitive though to get into the honours component of the course and move on...

This is incorrect. Given the legislative restrictions in each state, it is virtually impossible to open a pharmacy anywhere that is even remotely profitable.
I did with twelve units. Its more than possible. I know people who did 14 units and got 99+ without accelerating. (that includes accelerating outside formal enrolment).

I think you should go for a 5 day week, unless you have a commitment other than studying that you need to fill in that extra day. But if your concern is simply to get the most out of your studies, I'd go with 5. You could concentrate in lectures much more when you have longer breaks etc.
