    Common Mod Short Answer

I did one quote per mark, occasionally had more than necessary just to make sure, and also most of the time I finished on the given lines. Got a B6. If you have good analysis you'll get the marks.

Anyone know what raw mark in engineering studies would make it to a band 5?

Ended up getting a mid band 5 lol, so turned out well.

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

How much marks do u guys reckon you'd lose for having k=5 for that question, for some reason i didn't realise the question said x^k and x^(k+1) and rather just saw k and k+1 and did the whole procedure correctly, but with the wrong terms or whatever lol.

    this mass defect question

Uranium has some binding energy whatever it is, but this nucleus will be relatively unstable so we can imagine that the binding energy is not so high to begin with anyway. It does say "Total Binding Energy" so when the Uranium splits into the Thorium and Helium, it has now become more stable...

Equation of tangent derivation in parametrics

For part (i) of course you would find gradient of AP and gradient of AS and just prove the product is -1 but would you be allowed to just write down the tangent equation (to find coordinates of A) without deriving it, and just state its from reference sheet or something? This would save a little...

    probability question

If you choose any pair of shoes with no restriction, the chance of you getting it is 8/8. Now you have a restriction, the next shoe has to match the colour of that first shoe, which is only a 1/7 chance. Therefore (8/8) * (1/7) is just 1/7. This is the more 2u way of doing it.

It seems like there's not many of us doing the Dobson poems. How'd you feel about the understanding of ageing? I think I was able to make it work somehow but tbh I really don't know. I did Cock Crow, Amy Caroline and Young Girl at a Window.

And also, they're analysing joint C?? I though BC goes through C so how can you analyse joint C since BC goes through C?

Truss Method of Sections (2013 q23 a engineering)

That's the sample answer, and it says BC=0. What I am I doing wrong in finding BC? I'm using method of sections where I've cut through BC. And this is my equation (which is wrong): \sum M_a = 0 = 5(2.5+BC)

    this mass defect question

The Uranium nucleus are split, so the total mass decreases because the Uranium has decayed and used energy to decay to Thorium and Helium. As for total binding energy, one way to think about it is that the nucleus of the Uranium is relatively unstable, so it has somewhat of a low binding energy...

Well it looks like I'm getting a band 3 or band 4 at best for engineering 😔
