    Art History

i can't drop the subject... i need it for film studies. +, i don't hate the art, i just hate aspects of the way it's made available to us at usyd. maybe it's better in 2nd and 3rd year? like they always say. +, this isn't some pep rally, you know, i can whine all i want to whine. if i...

    Art History

i hate how there's no repeats of the lectures at more convenient times. because of that i have a five hour gap to kill on mondays & a four hour gap on tuesdays. and i'm stuck going home in the dark and suffocating on the train like sad sardine. and that STUPID flickering light in the lower...

    Listen To The Silence.

yeah I come here at least once a week and just stare glumly at the boring/empty -ness of it and then leave. you would think arts students would be a little more creative instead of nerdy or simply absent.

    Mrs Dalloway

Yeah when I first read Woolf I was like man, fuckoff, but once you step into it, the writing/perspective/entire thing is really quite remarkable. It helps to read the first pages (whatever) without trying to understand and then it gets better.

    Liberal Studies

yeah. we've already discussed it elsewhere, gwarpo. :D but it IS a sad state of affairs, the course. Although I actually don't think it would be so bad for you, because you're doing up-to-standard mathematics and french continuers. The course might actually be suited to you because you will...

    Stereotypes?

yeah it might actually be the easiest and most effective way to meet people / make friends, which is obviously the most important thing at uni. :D

    What are people's timetables like?

end of semester. because I'm doing liberal studies it's policy that I can transfer into either BA or BS at any semester; just have to write the faculty/dean a letter, three or so weeks before end of semester.

    Would you reccommend extension?

yeah. if you enjoy history (even if only occasionally) then it's pretty easy and not too much work. basically just reading texts and then spewing them onto paper come exam time + essay which you can do within a week and get a great result. it's easy marks and I always liked it. + you don't...

    Ways of Thinking

yeah that's the way to go because history ext tends to come right out with the main concepts, because you're researching people and periods instead of muddling your way through texts and their possible associated ideas.

    Ways of Thinking

a way of thinking as I understood it is a way of looking at an issue/text--- adopting a particular view (which has conventions and rules which may or may not be agreed upon) and applying that 'way of thinking' to society, literature, history, etc. ie feminist way of thinking --> feminist...

    Postmodernism

on supp texts-- have any of you read linda hutcheons A Poetics of Postmodernism ? if you haven't, I seriously suggest you ask your teacher to get ahold of it for you, or get a copy yourself. Not only does it give you the actual CONCEPTS (not techniques and shit) of postmodernism that all...

    Stereotypes?

a girl in my mythology class lives in a college and she came to our tutorial today wearing ugg boots and she is full cute. she reminds me of that girl Audrey from Dawson's Creek and she is nice and yay yay for colleges etc. who cares, really. so long as you have a place to live!

    Listen To The Silence.

oh Gregor you're bound to do well. I got a credit, and am trying hard not to think about it too much because it will make me cry. :( apparently I have a 'tension' where I use sophisticated concepts but am too shit to be able to talk about them properly with the right language etc.

dude wtf if you don't live a train away then colleges are you best option and who gives a fuck what some random shallow idiot thinks of you?? (it's the kids who drive/are driven to uni you gotta watch out for :D)
