    In memory: Campbell McComas (1952-2005)

I was a bit late to discover this but Campbell McComas passed away in January. For those of you who have seen the painting at Monash University, he created a huge reputation after hoaxing more than 400 people at Monash University in 1976 by portraying a famous Cambridge law professor...

    Law and order

A lawyer dies and goes to Heaven. "There must be some mistake," the lawyer argues. "I’m too young to die. I’m only fifty five." "Fifty five?" says Saint Peter. "No, according to our calculations, you’re eighty two." "How’s you get that?" the lawyer asks. Answers St. Peter: "We added up your time...

    Question on doing Law

I know exactly where you're coming from being a science-based person too. Not to worry although perhaps expect a short 'transition' period I like to call trial and error ;)

It's a tough call, I think Asquithian. Your application can fall in the hands of anybody's and it's very subjective, and dependent on the time they spend on each application. One might be your first year foundations teacher, or a partner who wants a specific type of person on their team...

    summer clerkships

I think they're very relevant at the 'culling stage' because competition, as always, is extremely high for graduate recruitment - there are so many applications and marks are a good objective filter. David Brent (The Office): Avoid employing unlucky people - throw half of the pile of CVs in...

That's right, they have their own online submission form like CV mail. There used to be a lot of firms listed with cvmail but they've gone on their own. With other firms that do not use CV mail or their own online submission form, you will most likely have to email or post your cover letter...

You're more than welcome Asquithian! In relation to your question, I believe everyone apply through CVmail to law firms that use CVmail for their submission process - I even think that that these firms give applicants no other choice (unless there are exceptional circumstances). However...

    Question on doing Law

*gasp!* don't get caught for misrep! :p Perhaps wait until you take on your electives or were you referring to exams? In my experience, law essays featured in every subject that I did both throughout the teaching period and also in the exams. My understanding was that law essays allowed...

    summer clerkships

Hi Frigid, In relation to clerkships: 1) It does take a lot of time to research a particular firm and this is made more difficult when you come across a law firm with a fairly uninformative website. Whilst I can understand from a university student's perspective that it is difficult to...

I also recommend the Legal Affairs section in the Friday edition of the Australian Financial Review. They have a lot of interesting information and current affairs every week, with far less propoganda than other legal news services :) You need a subscription though.

I apologise for not making myself clear. My point was not to the medium but to what amounts to 'reporting of news'. To use a basic example, using copyrighted material to illustrate a story (i.e. to report news). Copying and pasting substantial portions of a news article is mere reproduction as...

Not to worry, I'm not getting worked up over it and I do not care whether or not I am legally correct. I am just saying that it would be poor form to continue in that way considering as we have an interest in law.
