Re: 个文檌詞!

ok somebody, i tried to translate my viet name into chinese, does this make sense as a name, how do you pronounce it and what does it mean

陳泰賢

陳 = trần = chan/chen - i know it means "ceiling" literally in vietnamese lol, dunno about chinese
泰 = thái = tsai/choi - my dad said it's the thai from thailand @_@
賢 = hiền = yin/xian/hsiang - ah fuck i dunno, it means "meek, gentle, virtuous"

i got the characters from googling my name and from wikipedia

Yeah, it does make sense as a name. Actually, Chinese names don't have many restrictions - throw a family name (usually one character) and a given name (any one or two characters) together and you have a name. In some cases, the name as a whole (ie. the family name and given name put together) means something, but most of the time it doesn't - so we would look at the individual meanings of the characters.

陳泰賢 is pronounced Chen Tai Xian (in Mandarin).

Here are some meanings of 陳:

As an adjective - old, stale (lol...)
As a verb - to put on display, to state, to explain

Some meanings of 泰 (yeah it's the 泰 from Thailand):

As an adjective - safe, peaceful, vast, extreme
