A new hall/college is being built to be completed for the 07 intake.

A new student accommodation complex which will be home for more than 515 students is set to be built in the City West precinct in Canberra.

ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Chubb and ACT Chief Minister Mr Jon Stanhope today turned the first sod on the former car park site to celebrate the commencement of the development.

The $50 million accommodation complex will provide studio, two, three and five bedroom apartments for singles, couples and groups and will be completed in time to accommodate students for the 2007 academic year.
Multi-bedroom apartments would be a great improvement over the current one-bedroom only (except four rooms at Fenner) accomodation, especially for first-year couples facing the lottery of the halls and the confines of two people in one room.

Huzzah! No more desperately-trying-to-squeeze-two-people-into-a-bed-that-only-sleeps-one-(small)-person-comfortably. Or fitting 5 very drunk people onto the floor of a postage stamp-sized room. Apartments would be really fun...

This solution beats the only other one I've seen which is what several later years do, pull the bed base away from the wall put milk crates/phonebooks in the space and lay a double mattress across the bedbase+phonebooks+milk crates. This unfortunately cuts floor space alot.
