The top mark in the school for Standard English was 60%

I was really embarrassed because the teacher was calling out the marks infront of the entire class and when it got to me not only was I shocked I felt really angry. It pissed me off and I almost wanted to tell them to f**k off but I would have been sent to the cooling off room.

Yeah teachers shouldn't call out marks against ppls names, maybe against student number but.
Yeah as I said your school may mark quite hard, which is based on the train of thought that students will work harder to achieve the same result as a school that isnt as hard at marking so that in the HSC the students will perform better. I dont know the exam paper or your school so I cant really comment on your particular circumstance, just study smarter and learn the work better. If the way the teacher is teaching you isnt working suggest a better method, cause my teacher was always asking us if she could do things differently or better. Now your in yr12 the student-teacher relationship is more equal and not dictorial like in previous years

OK, you should probably just go to your teacher and ask for some advice, and if he/she ignores you, keep pestering him/her until they give you answers. I tend to get silence from teachers because they don't seem to want to tell me what's wrong with my stuff.

And as CaR`JiE said, you can only get better. Look at it as a learning curve.

mate, i reckon he's ripping marks off ya. you should get more than 1! given that you seriously attempted the questions and wrote 1.5 pages.
but don't worry though. i learnt last year never to despair. i, like lots of people, got ripped of shitloads of marks in adv english - teacher just gave me the shits all year, even in class and everything she'd bully me! but the long and short of it, my external hsc rank was multiple, and i mean multiple, times better than my internal and i scored a b6! yay! a loud slap in the face for that bitch! to add insult to injury, very few ppl did get b6, the grade as whole did poorly. so don't give up, remember: SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE. even if you do it discretely, like i had to! go get him for it, mate!

I did well in my SECTION III - Paper 1 exam (it was the Journeys Essay).

I got 1 out of 20.

I might just quit while im ahead.

When Sir handed the essay section back I looked at the mark and scrunched it up and threw it in the bin.

Getting 1/20 means that you've really missed something, your writing was bad on the day, and that you've been doing no practice.

Would you like some help getting your marks up? I promise you if you talk with me on msn for more than 30 mins that I can make that mark 1000% better

Hey, don't feel bad. I would have got 5% in the HSC math if I did it. Your teacher shouldn't read out marks. Just don't give up. It's a shit deal, but giving up never gets anyone anywhere. Can you talk on msn?

Sounds like a pratt. Complain to Bob Carr, he seems to believe in encouragement rather than humiliation.

BTW - HSC English sucks. Who can understand how they mark the journeys syllabus? It seems to be much more about what individual teachers think. Very difficult to figure out what they want from us.
