10 reasons why you like/dislike uni (1 Viewer)

Likes
- lots of like minded people wanting to learn about a really obscure artform
- the regularity of free tickets I get from staff and VCA union
- my regular lecture theatre has good sleeping chairs in it.
- been to 4 out of 10 lectures this term for one of my subjects, yet still topping tute group.
- learning new stuff
- meeting new people/making friends
- going to uni means I can live in college, which was the best decision I may of made in my teenage life.
- I'm a first year so I can get away with doing 'naughty/wrong' stuff
- some of the staff are inspirational
- I live 2.1km from the centre of Melbourne.

Dislikes
- feeding of all kinds of political propaganda like it was on a drip.
- my course's contact hours (averaging 35-40 a week).
- placement terms (up to 14 hr days)
- the fact that I don't get to socialise or party as much as the average uni student.
- more hectic and more deadlines.
- no pressure to get work in on time from staff (it's all self motivated)
- not having much of a life outside of uni
- travelling to uni
- not having enough money to live comfortably (poor country kid in big smoke)

Likes:
- All the holidays
- The cute little ducklings that are everywhere on campus in spring
- Open book exams

Dislikes:
- The standard of the tutors! It seems like they let any stupid moron become a tutor these days :burn:

No need to hope, it's true. Just take a look at the criteria in some job adverts..."results driven...65+ average" (pfft...might as well leave that off the list since everyone has that sort of average anyway) Just goes to show that for most jobs, anyone who can string a few sentences together is considered to be capable.

Long holidays / semester breaks
Assignments, I love doing the research, finding out new info for my assignments / learning new stuff.
It what I want to be doing / studying
Lots of nice people at uni / in my lectures, tutes etc…
Flexibility (most of the time)
Supportive lecturers

DISLIKES:
Exam period. I usually do better on my exams tan my assignments, but I get so stressed.

i've become a people person
grades are no longer so important to me
full time student=work 3 days a week, uni one day a week ---> student discounts

dislikes
the yukky feeling of no motivation to study even if its a week till ur exam i.e now

Likes:
- Awesome new friends
- Awesome events at college
- Random pub crawls at college more often than at school
- The 'ability' to 'retrieve' any piece of digital creation you want, rather quickly.
- Exposure to new music and tastes
- Independence (assuming you go to college)
- Gym on campus
- People who also enjoy going for long runs (10 to 20 km) a few times a week
- Two semesters per year instead of one. If you screw a subject up, it doesn't linger for an entire year.

Dislike:
- The urge not to attend lectures even though you live 5 minutes walk away - fight it!
- Compulsory assessed tutorials at 9am the day after you had a pub crawl
- Team and group projects (more an IT thing)
- Noise from your drunk neighbours at 3am when you have an exam at 9am
- Stuff.
- STUPID POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS (ID EST: ALL OF THEM)

Likes:
1) The micro-possums as well as the mini-ducks! I love the ANU campus in general
2) The college "backup and retrieval network"
3) Open book exams
4) Proximity to the city
5) Official college activities
6) Unofficial college stuff i.e. LAN gaming every night, poker every other night, bar crawls etc
7) The friends that I've made at college
8) College food. I know this is hard to believe, but I actually eat better at college than I do at home. I'm at home now, and I'm sading
9) Law (much <3)
10) The variety of subject choices available, particularly in the arts and science faculties (which is great for me since i'm a bit of a degree hopper)

Dislikes
1) The Chinese faculty. Sif make Chinese double weighted in first year!
2) Tutorials. Tutorials in law seem fairly hit and miss. I enjoyed Legal Theory (because the tutor facilitated class discussion very well) and Torts (because it was entirely focussed on problem solving and exam preparation) in particular, but International Law and Contracts were awful.
3) The difficulty in switching between ANU owned colleges. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO LET ME MOVE IN TO A SELF CATERED COLLEGE WHEN I'D SUBSEQUENTLY MAKE A VACANCY AT A CATERED COLLEGE.
4) College internet costs. 7c p/meg? Disabling uni quotas in rooms?
5) The law bell curve. I know that you need to preserve "academic standards" but only awarding a HD to 1-2% of a course and a D to 10% is just... harsh.
6) Racial segregation at college. It only really started this year, and reminds me too much of high school.

Good: you don't have to study during holidays because there's nothing to study, and you can jig lectures.
