i realise how crazy it sounds, but 100 is my ultimate aim; the peak of the mountain. i was wondering, what would it actually take, to get it. like, how consistent would i have to be? does it mean dropping only a few marks in all my assessment tasks leading up to the hsc and then doing really well in the hsc as well? its my motivation to work hard and i want to know how realistic it is

hmm, i happen to think its possible :D ... but unlikely. i'd really like to know how important internal assessments (not counting the trials) are. like all those assessments leading up to the trials, if i want to get anywhere near 100 do i basically have to ace them?

Essentially you don't have to ace any assessment tasks, you just need a rank of 1st, 'cause if your school is good enough your assessment will be moderated very highly. Then, as you have a rank of 1st in assessment, you are guaranteed the highest HSC exam marks, and if these are high enough you can technically achieve a UAI of 100.

ahhh i see... well my school is in the top 25, so i really need to ace them if i want to come first :D
so does that mean that if i can get a mark of say, 80 for my internal assessment and if i get say >90 for hsc, provided im close to being ranked first, its a possibility?

Around 20 people each year get a UAI of 100.

Again, doesn't matter about your internal assessment marks, it's your ranks that matter, if you're getting 50% internally but you're coming first in the subject, and own the HSC exam, you should be able to get a high HSC mark and thus more chance of getting the 100 UAI.

is it so much emphasis on FIRST? i go to a selective school and its rare here to get someone coming first in everything, you usually get people specialising in certain subjects. what if one was to come in the top 3 for his/her 10 units? is it still a possibility?

Ultimately, there are...say...200 kids that could get such a UAI...but it basically rests on luck. I have no doubt that you may be one of the 200...and i admire your determination...but basically it comes down to this: you can have fantastic assessment marks and have studied ur arse off to remember 99% of the course...but if u get a question that you're only 90% prepared for ...or u get a bunch of weird markers that dont know what you're on about...or if you misread something...

then that can be the difference :)

It's most definitely possible to get a UAI of 100 without coming first in all your subjects. One of the people who got a UAI of 100 last year topped French and Italian, but was 3rd for 2U Maths (out of 90-something), somewhere in top 10 for 3U Maths (out of 70-something), top 10 for 2U English (out of 220), and she wouldn't tell me this but I suspect her Chemistry rank was very close to mine (26th out of 53) cos she didn't care. Predictably, Chemistry didn't count for her. She didn't even get dux because she didn't top the most number of subjects (only 2).

Erm.. out of curiosity, if you go to Ruse, you don't still need to come first in everything, right?

In some years several people have had UAI's of 100.

Besides, that would be crazy if you did top everything.

Yes, if your school is ranked high then you don't have to get such good internal rankings because it's likely that your cohort (and more importantly, the people who beat you) are good.

I don't think it's really necessary to know what mark you need to get because you may become disappointed. The way I see it, you need to study a hell of a lot and study even more, if that makes sense.....

Good luck with it.

yeah exactly. also having ppl tell u what to get, u might subconciously only aim for that.

just do give it your absolute best. aim for the very top in everything - be it internal or external,

:)
