Will be doing 13 Units in Yr 12 - Adv. Eng, Chem, Maths, Drama, Design& Tech, Ext Eng & Biology. I need to drop something.
Dropping Ext English will leave me with 12 but I'm good at English. I'll probably get good marks for Drama and Design & Tech but will have two major projects to do. My worst subject is Chemistry....but I want to study Science at uni!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP...no idea how the scaling stuff will affect me. What do I drop?

If you want to study science, then don't drop Chem. It's not a prerequisite, but it will be helpful. You can drop Ext. Eng and either DT or Drama, but I'm guessing you want at least 12 units. Drop whichever one you like the least.

I reckon dropping ext eng would be best...it seems it ranks only same as Adv Eng - is this right? When I went to my school about dropping it, they told me to 'think again'. WTF? I think they want me to drop Chem - it IS my worst subject, but I'll really need it for Science at uni.

Personally, there's three things you can consider about dropping a subject:
- Time requirements of a subject
- Poor performance in a subject
- Dislike or resentment of a particular subject

Devil's advocate time:

If you suck at Chemistry at high school level, perhaps you're not cut out for science?

I say go drop for what you're wrose at, getting a better ATAR only enhances uni prospects.

But also for Shadow, if you aren't doing well in HS chem, is uni science for you?

I don't take university level chemistry or physics, so I don't know. But I just know it's a helluva lot harder - that's the impression I get from people.

By all means, try it - but I'm of the persuasion that if you don't do well in HSC science.. then I don't think you'll do well at all at uni level where they bump up the level.
