I just received my 1st assessment back and i came 3rd out of 4 :(
the marks are as follows
1st - 60%
2nd - 47%
3rd - 45% (me)
4th - 37%

my school is NOT in the top 200 BUT probably in the top 220

what i would like to know is that if it is possible for me to make a recovery from this dilemma and achieve a UAI of >96.4

and please can i get a realistic answer not one like "just get 100% in the HSC final" lol

Thank's in Advance

I know you probably don't want to hear it but you can recover from that easily. Once again, its more so consistency then anything. I'd aim to come first in the following assessment task.

it doesnt matter about reputation, no matter what school one goes to there are good students in maths.

just post it in here and we can have a look.

Those questions look awfully like past HSC questions in that regard this test isn't hard at all, since these kind of questions are the beginning questions of the MX2 HSC exam and you should be aiming for 90%+ if not 100% in the beginning questions so you get the easy marks first and try to get some for the harder questions

All in all, just practice just think that your teacher uses past HSC questions so just look up past HSC papers and take out questions for your upcoming test so you are more prepared.

With regards to the UAI question, you don't need that high for MX2 to get a high UAI I'd say 75+ HSC mark would be sufficient that is if you do relatively well in your other subjects but certainly to get the full effect of the scaling get at least 90+ very achievable for you since this early days

to get >96.4 is not out of reach at all depending on your other subjects. Sure the mark for ext 2 is not ideal, and having looked at the paper, seems something like Q2 or 3 of past HSC exams, but if you put in a bit more work, you'll be able to get a decent mark for Ext 2 and scaling will carry the rest :)

Good luck!

from ur experience wats the most effective way to study for ext 2?? past paprs?? or trial exam from outside the school? or papers from inside the school??

if u could only pick 1 or 2
Last year's MX2 paper had a question from a trinity grammar trial (forgot which year, but it was posted up on the forums three or so days before the actual exam [a geometry question]) That being said they also use past HSC questions and just change the values usually for the first 2 or 3 whole questions.

So definately do past HSC papers and trial papers from any school is fine. You can find heaps of trial papers in the BoS Resource section and there is a link there to like 300 other HSC/trials papers (courtesy of Buchanan)

Also, if you can try to find some uni books and do questions out of there because they could steal some questions from that and just reword/change values :p

haha im in such a similar situation, my school is ranked preety poorly aswell, and my first assessment was very similar to urs, except like double as long with a hard question at the end. Like 10 marks in ur paper was also in mine. My class also done poorly, with marks around urs...1st-65(me) second 45 third 43 and last was like 30s.

jst think of it as ur first assessment, most people improve and your not that far of a decent mark. A 96.5 UAI is very achievable. just keep workign and things should turn around! Goodluck

That test wasnt hard, but some question was tricky. I will try to post the answer asap. I think you should practice all question in Phoenix text book before you do the test. Good luck in future assesment tasks.

Gosford must have pretty easy assessments...I got 80% and came about 7th out of about 25-ish.

Bank$, was that the whole assessment? Because that seemed pretty short.

The test is not quite hard (except I think I will have some problems with the last question of complex number).

It wouldn't really matter markwise, as SS pointed out, but if it was me I'd prolly go insane facing a teacher alone in class, all the time
