Interesting things:
B Commerce had a higher median starting wage than B Commerce (lib studies) by a lot. This has reversed from last year. Although, I guess this could be attributed to the growth in ECMT majors taken within the straight com degree which lead to higher paying jobs. Com (lib) will also tend to fluctuate violently due to the smaller number of people accepted into the degree (55/year)

B Arts (media and communications) only had a $29,000 median salary!!! Lower than arts and much higher the UAI

Agricultural economics has a very high median starting salary

Dentistry is highest with $65k starting salary and close to 100% employment w/in 6 months

B Science degrees all seem to have low job rates and high further study rates.

Too bad they dont have stats for BIT. The fact that most BScience students went on to further study isnt really that surprising. B Arts(Informatics) was the most surprising one for me.

Haha check out some of the BSc graduate jobs:
BAR TENDER LEWIS HOTELS PTY
BAR ATTENDANT CASTLE HILL TAVERN
BAR ATTENDANT BLUE GUM HOTEL
BAR PERSON CUNCURRY BOWLING CLU
CARPARK ATTENDANT MIRVAC
CASHIER WOOLWORTHS LTD
CHECKOUT OPERATOR WOOLWORTHS
LABOURER KERRY COCHRANE
etc

I'd say this'd be why 30% of people won't pay off their HECS before they die.

I think data on median starting salaries have limited utility. The more important thing to consider is how a graduate's salary progresses througout his or her career.

It's not so great having a starting salary of $50,000 straight out of university if you are still at that figure in 10 years.

We need more information about the median salaries after 10, 15, 20 etc years after graduation :)

i like this.

music's $40K

I always thought it would be incredibly low.

and if music doesn't work out for me, I always have my administrative role.
After my degree finishes, and the experience of 4 years part time admin, I'd be earning $45-65K

I assume I'll do a tafe course if I want to give up music and pursue admin/accounting crap and earn a lil more.

So music wasnt the best option money-wise, but I was always conscious of that.

Thanx for the link stas

EDIT: though I think they've got some things wrong in this survey. I mean, when it comes to music, how come not so many of them ACTUALLY performing? Except like, one or two....

i.e.: Teachers often earn more than lawyers upon graduation :p

Someone who did law was a self-employed dentist, another was a doctor at nepean hospital...go figure!

Looks to me like B.Sc is a total waste of time given the rigurous workload.

That wasn't what was being suggested, 1time (even though it's a common inference).

just like the common inference that most science students only do science because they are unable to communicate with others in a business setting. i think it's pretty crap.
