technically it wasn't an essay.... it was a response..... and they asked ur opinion... so they were expecting u to say...
"i" or "i belive" or "during my search for the meaning of the journey i have found"........... an essay is something where u discuss a question and they dont ask ur opinion....

I used 'one' and 'oneself'. When in doubt of whether you can use you, substitute you for 'one'.

When one studies [insert text] ones understanding of the world is increased/expanded/enlargened/etc. Or one is enriched through ones imaginative journey in understanding the individual in their world experiencing their own imaginative journey.. etc etc

u can't use "i" or "me", i used the responder, for example, "this text allows the responder to gain a greater understanding of themselves and the world around them as a result of the journey presented in this text"

well that what i think anyways
