I had a flick through the guide in the SMH today and it looks freaking awesome. Definitely want to check out Paprika and Black Sheep (the idea of a flesh eating sheep is just too good to pass up).

You're not going to go to any of the Huston films?
i've already seen most of 'em, and admittedly i'm not a huge fan, aside from the maltese falcon and fat city. i might try and catch either of them again with my spare tix.

i wish they did a retrospective on a director whose films are hard to come by in oz, like the melville one last year.

but i've never seen the asphalt jungle - so i might check that out

pending funds i'm a close certainty to see inland empire and rescue dawn

Agreed, his films are fairly common, but I'd still love to see The Man Who Would Be King on the big screen. Plus I've never seen Fat City, so might give that a watch.

And yeah, Inland Empire and Rescue Dawn should be worth seeing. Isn't IE released in cinemas before then, though?

IE is slated for a june 21 release, according to infilm... weird, since it's playing on the 20th and 21st at the festival. maybe it'll be pushed back.

fat city is the one essential huston, imo. the asphalt jungle was a huge letdown to me; rififi (its loose remake) is much better.

i had no idea rififi was a remake
it's pretty cool

i've never even heard of fat city - maybe i'll see that instead

also, no love for the treasure of the sierra madre? too preachy?

oh, i should've mentioned that the joy division doco is actually a BIOPIC. by some music video director. ian's played by an unknown instead of jude law (the original choice LOL), and samantha morton plays his wife. could go either way, but i'm interested nonetheless.

i didn't realise that was made

i remember reading about jude law playing ian curtis years ago and hoping it would never happen
this is going to suffer from comparison to 24 hr party people

But if you're under 18 you can't get in unless the film's rated, right?

And anyway you can't get in without adults.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Yeah I agree - I love 24 hour party people too much for it to be challenged by something new..
