I did my HSC in 2023, since I went to a gateway school for most of year 12 I was eligible for early entry at UNSW to study Mathematics. The ATAR needed was only 68 after early entry lowered it by 12. Don't stress if you get a low atar since there is always IPT in uni. I know plenty of people who got ATARS in 65-75 range and now going to UNSW. Since you go to a top 5 selective school you won't get an ATAR that low but just saying for all the others here.

For atar you'd definitely need like 98+ to be competitive so considering your school being ranked so high try to rank top 15ish in most of your subjects depending on the b6 rate for your subjects- you wanna be aiming for as many b6 and high b5 as possible^^

99.5 and 99 lat for offers from both

yes, unsw and usyd are more competitive for law, but they're also much more difficult course and marking wise and much more respected by employers. it's probably easier to either: transfer in undergrad with a HD (85+) wam from an easier degree, or do the post-grad JD which is substantially the same.

the median LAT for entry is typically around 75

curious do u know how many top tier/mid tier clerkships usyds landing a cohort
no idea on numbers, my rough impression is that a lot of people are on good clerkships, and its quite easy to land one if you have a distinction average and present half-decently at an interview.

do you reckon i should write the lat again this year, i got 87/100 last year in the 94th percentile?
yes u should. Ur LAT result is valid for 2 years but they take your HIGHEST/BEST score. You can do it as many times as u want but only once an year. That way, if ur new lat score is better, yay, if not, u have your previous score to back u. I got 80/100 (2024) first try with no practice + no clue what the LAT is. Had I done it the previous year and known what to expect, my score could have been higher.
tldr attempt is as many times u can since they'll take ur best result anyway.

yes but do i need to? like i heard that atar is weighted much more than the lat when they are giving out offers. i kinda just wanna focus on my hsc, because the test is around trials time. so is it really worth it?

i wouldnt bother but ig it all depends on how confident u r that ur atar would be high

u don't need to, but I would recommend u doing it to maximise your chances. TBH the line between LAT and ATAR isn't that clear. As long as both are above 90, u have a chance imo. + The LAT is only one day and it didn't affect my studies at all~ mostly cos I didn't bother preparing for it. Seeing as you've already done it, you prolly wont need to study too. If it helps, my friend got a 76 LAT and 98 ATAR and got an offer in a later round.
You decide its worth but imo it doesnt require much of u so why not do it to maximise your chances.
